Penn Central
Train Attendant
In the days of the self-propelled, first-generation Metroliners, did either Penn Central or Amtrak have any ideal consist, or did they just not even bother and srcrounge up whatever happened to be working? I've also heard that the Penn Central forbade use of more than six cars in a single train, citing possible electrical overload, yet I've also seen a picture of an Amtrak 8-car Metroliner MU train. Can anyone elaborate on this? One other question that is not properly an Amtrak question, but I need to know: In the days before the full coaches were working(in early 1969), was there any ratio of snack-bar coaches to parlor cars, or was it a matter of what was available? Thanks for any info on this obscure topic.
