Yep, fishing expeditions by the Government is in violation of the 4th Amendment but "Swearing" they have "Probable Cause" to search you makes it all hunky dory with the Courts and the Politicians!

Our leaders love to talk about the Constitution and our Founding Fathers, but most of them couldn't get elected today, they were too radical and believed in liberty and freedom from Government oppression!

( read what Jefferson and Franklin wrote on this subject, but I forget, most people don't read nowadays!)

Just me, but I'm not letting paranoia ruin my day. DEA,TSA. Do your thing and move on.
When they pick up the people down the street, I said nothing. When they pick up the people next door, I said nothing. When they came for me, there was no one left to say anything.
"Anumberone" this is not about paranoia people. When you get the treatment, then you change your mind. Police are trained to do this. They hide behind a blue wall, protect by laws to prevent transparent of there actions. Police officers lie, they are trained to do that.

Into the people take a stand and hold the Police, and other LEO accountable for there actions. It will not stop.

The OP story was about "fishing trips" by the police taken money from people with no recourse. What is the cut off on the amount take? Why is there no Judge review? If your funds are taken you get to pled your case to a Prosecutor, and not a Judge. Why is that?

Why don't you care? Or will you care after a LEO take all your money. After you visited a ATM, and withdraw 200 usd for night out with your spouse. Will you care then?

Try putting a lock on a bag you are checking in at an airport. Let me know how that works out. I'm just saying, authorities looking in my bag, go for it. Take my money, a whole different situation.

I often put a lock on my bag - a TSA lock, and it works out just fine. I have actually managed to get a bag through with a non-TSA lock also several times, but worst case they will break it. They seem to always leave a little note these days if they open a bag. I also often just use one of those twist things taken from bread or other wrappings. My main purpose for doing any of this is not necessarily to keep an authorized agent from getting into my bag, but to keep the bag from opening up accidentally. I actually don't care how many times they want to sniff through my underwear. They are most welcome to it.There is nothing of any real value in there ever. Anything of value is shipped insured through a shipper, not in airline checked baggage. It is simply stupid to try to use airline checked baggage to transport valuables.

In regards to Amtrak, this past April on the CZ on the way to Chicago from Denver, we did our usual stop in Omaha at 5am ish (it was still dark). But I noticed the train was held a little longer than usual, at least in my eyes and I noticed a lot of plain clothes officers milling around. I know this because they had a suitcase in hand waking up passengers about this one suitcase was theirs or not. They stopped in front of my seat and talked to a younger woman, college age. Asked if it was hers and she said yes. They asked if they could go through it and with approval they did. One going through it while another was holding a flashlight. While doing this, they were asking the usual questions (What do you do? where are you coming from? Are you from there, etc) After they were done, they said the reason why it was searched was because there was no passenger tag or anything identifying on the suitcase itself. Made sense after they said that. It was professional but you could feel the tension from them like they were about to find something. Heck I was waiting on the sound of handcuffs anytime. But they left and the train did minutes later.

But the funny thing on that same trip when I was boarding something happened to me personally. I was trying to board and the train attendant wouldn't allow me to board for some reason and asked me to wait while they were allowing others. *** obviously was going through my mind. They said it was a security situation. Then the conductor came up and laughed and said I was fine, I wasn't to be held and allowed boarding. The attendant apologized to me profusely and said they were watching out for a "large man headed to Chicago and to hold them." Well I am large... but found out they were watching for someone that just got released from prison that day and he was already leaving the state with out permission. They large (muscle) guy was escorted away by local security. I shook my head. I didn't have a seatmate that whole trip either :D .
