Just reading the forum and found these terms: buckets and amsnag. What are these and how do they help with costs? thx ~Andy

Amsnag is a website put together by a forum member that can assemble a fare picture for any Amtrak train over a 30 day period. You dial in the train # and station codes and it will show you the fares. Low bucket is the lowest fare. If you are looking for sleeper accomodations, they can sell out fast on many routes so booking 11 months out usually results in getting the best fare.

When you read "fare bucket" (or something like that) it might help to think "fare level" instead.
