I understand from some posts on other lists that Anthony Haswell, founder of the National Association of Railroad Passengers, has passed away at the age of 94.

He was certainly an instrumental figure in the preservation of railroad passenger service when it was going down the tubes fast . He was also instrumental in the creation of Amtrak.

I visited him in his office in Chicago in 1968 and had a nice conversation with him. He operated the NARP office with himself and one secretary at the time. He certainly was able to accomplish a great deal.

I understand that in later years he became disillusioned with Amtrak and with NARP.

Anthony, Tony, Mr. Haswell - Thanks for all you have done. Rest in Peace.
