    Autumn Express Survey

I took the trip on Saturday and filled it out while waiting for my train back to NJ. I was actually commenting to my girlfriend, who came on the trip with me, that the survey was actually decent. I didn't feel like I wanted to stop half way through answering 500 boring "on a scale of 1 to 10"...

    No catenary also.

    Bought my first onboard ticket

Is the on-board ticket still one of those duplicate/triplicate forms that are punched? Or have they progressed to actually printing them out?

    ACS-64 Heads Up

I can see them doing that to reduce vandalism. I know highways that are numbered 666 (or some variant thereof) tend to get their signs stolen quite frequently. Not saying that someone will steal a engine, maybe graffiti.

Conductor issues tickets - current status?

I think it'd be best just to call and ask about getting points for on-board tickets. I don't think I've ever had the missing points form work for conductor-issued tickets.

    Electrification Harrisburg-Pittsburgh: could it happen?

I've seen most most of the people I know from Pittsburgh abbreviate it PGH.

    ACS-64 Testing Begins

If people want an even closer look, this was posted on Amtrak's blog (link to a huge picture).

Amtrak iPhone app - Passport feature disabled

It's part of the social aspect that every company is trying to get into. It's suppose to be friendly competition among people who participates. I used it just to check off station I've been to. It was terrible slow and frequently didn't work.

    Name That Station!

    Yup, you got it.

    Name That Station!

Nope. Hint 1: 3 trains total stop here daily.

Amtrak Fall Foliage trips out of Philly

I haven't gone on any excursion this years, so I'm in for this one. Are we up to 60 for the private car, yet?

I guess it's my turn. Hopefully this should be an easy one.

    Penn Station NYC info

The 7th Ave exit. It's the longish hallway opposite the information booth with the stairs to LIRR on the left and NJ Transit on the right. There will be fairly wide stairs flanked by escalators. http://jasongibbs.com/pennstation/ On the second map, it's on the right-middle.

    National Timetable to be Released

I don't quite understand what "Medium-Distance Train" mean. Originally I thought it was the long distance trains that were not overnight (and no sleepers), but I've found a couple instances that contradicted that. I don't think it really matters much though.

    Cash or Credit

I believe Amtrak Credit Card terminals still do it the old fashioned way with the magnetic strip and a swipe (and maybe sign), not the chip and PIN that the rest of the world has migrated to. They also don't accept debit cards that you swipe and enter a PIN, you have to use it as a credit card...

    Cash or Credit

Did this change with eTickets? I remember seeing someone pay with cash onboard, and when I had to pay onboard for a last minute ticket at the beginning of last year, the conductor asked if I was paying with cash or credit card.

Any advice for newbie to NYP dealing with the place?

Most of the "rudeness" just tends to be people in a rush. When asking questions, just be prepared to answer about where you are going, and don't start talking about your skydiving hobby or pet iguana. Of course, I was born in NYC, so I could just be used it.

What reason do you hear from people for not riding Amtrak

Ugh, I've driven to Pittsburgh from Central Jersey before. I thought the opposite was true, driving was so boring, you can't even really look around, just staring at the road. At least on the train, I can actually look around, nap, or read. Most of the complains I've heard were time and cost...
