When it comes to measuring on-time performance the LIRR uses a five minute rule where if a train arrives at a station within five minutes it is still on-time. What is the standard Amtrak uses when measuring a train's on-time preformance considering how late a number of trains are on a daily basis. Is there a single standard or are there different standards depending upon the particular train?

For me I consider up to 1 hour for a Long-Distance train, 30 minutes on a Medium-Distance train, 15 minutes for a Short-Distance train as "on-time". I really don't know what the actual rule is, but I believe Amtrak has to pay a fine for late trains. B)

On departures from the initiating terminal, you have about 8-10 minutes. They can usually make up the time and stay within the window.

On arrivals, anything within 1 hour is considered "on-time".
