Amtrak officials say the northbound train was forced to stop in Sharon after the train derailed just before 7:30 p.m. They say none of the 85 passengers and five crew members on board were injured.

Officials say the derailment involved one set of wheels on the rear porton of the third car. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Wow, that's only a mile or so from my house, looks like it's just beyond the interstate bridge. Probably explains the lights on the tracks I saw coming home late that night.

My guess is the cause was light flooding; the roadbed is raised in that area with a little ditch on either side. It's been raining practically all spring, I imagine water's built up there and softened the trackbed. Though it seems the NECR did a good job fixing it, I saw a northbound freight pass through this afternoon.
