Hello all,

some of you posted for me to get off in Fullerton(from the SWC) instead of going to LAX for going to Disneyland.

I'm assuming Fullerton will have taxis waiting at the Fullerton station, can anyone confirm?

I was looking at prices between taxi to Disneyland vs. Pacific Surfliner. I was on some taxi website, according to it, it looks like both forms of transportation are around the same price. Surfliner is only $6.50 and then I remembered I would have to get a taxi to Disneyland, last year it cost me $10 and plus a tip. Taxi to Anaheim around $16.50 plus tip. Here is another thought, if lots of traffic the higher the cab ride, correct? Or do they go just by mileage? Sorry, usually I just get in a cab and go, which is not very often, I don't know how they charge. So I had the thought, if there would be a lot of traffic from Fullerton to Disneyland, the cab ride could cost more than $16.50?

I want to make a good decision here and not get a surprise taxi fare.

Ok, one more question. If I would decide to take the Surfliner to Anaheim, how crowded are those trains in the morning(Friday), are they packed, can I get on, or squish in?

I would like to take the least expensive way, cause Disneyland is expensive!

I think too much about everything. :help:

Thanks everyone, hope all of you are having a great weekend!

There is a taxi stand by the station, but at times there isn't a taxi there. There is also a bus terminal across the street from the station, but I don't know the routes.

Well you may also want to check with the Hotel you are staying at (that is if you are staying at a hotel) if they will pick you up, either at LAUS, Fullerton, or Anaheim. Anaheim also has a bus system that can get you to the Park.

Can't answer this to well but in the morning much more traffic will be heading to LAUS. And there is also the Metrolink service between these stations.

Hi.....as an Orange County resident who takes public transportation, I can help you a bit with your questions...

1. Yes, there will be taxis waiting at the Fullerton Station, but as mentioned by the excellent GG-1, sometimes the taxis are not there. The public bus station is just a few yards away from the station. Depending on where in Anaheim, or even Disneyland area you will stay in, you can take either the route 47 OCTA bus heading towards Newport Beach that will pass by the GardenWalk mall area in Anaheim, or you can take the more Disneyland convenient route 43 OCTA bus towards Costa Mesa that will run on Harbor Boulevard, where Disneyland is. I'd suggest you call up a taxi once you arrive in FUL if you want to take a taxi to your final destination.

2. Traffic from Fullerton to Disneyland area can vary depending on how one gets to the Anaheim Resort Area, but usually it is not bad. If your ultimate destination is indeed Disneyland, I would just either take the 43 route bus from Fullerton station or continue on the Surfliner to the Anaheim station, where it stops right near Angels Stadium, and you can take a far cheaper cab ride from there to your hotel, an ART Shuttle bus, or another OCTA bus ( there are two that serves the Disneyland Resort Area from the stadium....one's a limited service little bus).

3. Surfliner trains in morning is not very crowded...most morning traffic will flow in the other direction to Los Angeles, not necessarily to Orange County and San Diego.

Hope that helps a little. Happy travels, and enjoy Orange County :)

Just wanted to thank you for your replies with good information.

Still not sure which mode I want to take to Disneyland.

I will have a wonderful time on my travels, Disneyland is just going to be adults! Did this 4 years ago, it was so much fun.

Thanks again everyone. :)

This is exactly what we do..super easy and you don't have to go all the way into LAX then go back basically the same way. Yes, there are cabs and cab/van things waiting..it costs us 20 something to get from the station to Disney property. I love the timing of this train as it gets in so early and heads back to late..we get lots of extra Disney time. Now..the Surfliner..I have to take this when I take the southern route..and I tried this last year and the train left without me and it was obvious I was trying to get on..as poinding on doors should have shows..but that is another question for this board..how the heck to get on this thing..there was only one door open..and the very front..and it looked like it was the conductor door so I didn't get on, then when I figured nothing else was open and began hustling back it took off...btw..a cab to Union Station is $76.00.

Fullerton is great!

We are traveling on the Chief in January mke to san. Am I right in assuming that we could also avoid going all the way to lax and instead get off at Fullerton and board the Surfliner there.

Answering the last two posts.

To njulian:

On the Surfliners, there are two sets of double-wide doors for each car that are automatically opened and closed by one person, the conductor or the assistant conductor, from whichever car he/she is in at the time.

The second car in the consist going south (the first coach car after business class) has the snack lounge on the lower level. Only the forward set of car doors (going south) open in this car because the second set of doors are right behind the attendant's cash counter. (The positions are reversed for going north.) All doors in the other cars open for the other stations unless a particular station platform is too short (not the case for any Surfliner stop between LA and San Diego).

Somehow you must have found yourself pressed for time and ended up in front of the coach-snack lounge car.

I guess the lesson is that in a case of little time, run onto the train through any door that is open. There is no "conductor" door restricted for Amtrak employees on the Surfliner. I'm not sure about other non LD trains but personally know only of the center doors on the Superliner Lounge and Dining cars, since those cars have no passenger boarding entries or exits.

To packerbacker:

Yes, get off in Fullerton if you are connecting to Surfliner trains going south to Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano and points in San Diego County.

You'll have no more than an hour wait, even if the Chief is late into Fullerton, because there are hourly Surfliner trains. Depending on whether you are going to an Orange County or San Diego County location, you also may have Metrolink commuter line trains to select from as well.

Looking at a map, it seems like the best bet is to take a bus 90% of the way from Fullerton to Disneyland. It would require about 20 minutes of walking, but hey, you 're about to spend all day walking, right? It's also only $1.50 to take the bus from Fullerton, and the schedule is friendlier.

To hop on the PacSurf or Metrolink to Anaheim almost takes you as far past Disneyland as when you started.

Don't know what it's like in your neck of the woods, but 20 minutes of walking on major thoroughfares in Orange County is about as unpleasant as things get. California drivers often do not respect the pedestrian's right-of-way at major intersections. The streets are noisy, dusty and full of truck and other commercial traffic.

Unless you're destitute, money paid for a Metrolink or Surfliner ticket is money well-spent, especially as there are shuttles from the Anaheim station that bring you nearly to the gate of Disneyland.

There are lots of people who get off the trains every day at Anaheim on their way to Disneyland.

A bus and a 20-minute walk by using a cheap Fullerton alternative is a ticket to a miserable day.
