I was driving along Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell and I suddenly remembered that there was a railroad line which ran along the south side when I was younger. right by where Caldwell college is now, it ran in a kind of cutout for much of the way and there was a bridge over Bloomfield avenue which is also gone. Was that a passenger line?

It was the Caldwell Branch which used to take off from the Boonton Line west of Great Notch and connected to the Morristown Line just west of Morristown. It was embargoed in 1975 or so after a washout. Currently the Morristown end is still in service served by M&E RR, the Whippany Museum is located on it. If it had passenger service I suspect it ended long ago.
