Author touts rail transportation


Embracing Sault Ste. Marie’s rich rail history and planning to fully tap into its current and future potential will pay dividends down the line, says the author of a recently published book documenting Ontario’s railway heritage.

“First of all, emphasize the tourism benefits that come from having a very popular Algoma Central train,” says Ron Brown, author of Rails Across Ontario: Exploring Ontario’s Railway Heritage (Dundurn Press). “CN, by in large, is not in the business of operating tour trains, they basically inherited one.”

Lobbying the province and federal governments will do no harm, either, says the author....
