Metra is seeking bids for at least 200 new bilevel railcars and eight new locomotives.
This is very interesting because Metra says it will consider multilevel models other than gallery cars. Since Metra and predecessor private railroads have used gallery cars for more than 50 years, it would be quite a break from tradition to go to full two level car design.
Maybe they're finally realizing that they're out of step with nationwide ADA trends.
And we should expect to see everyone’s hair catch on fire as a kneejerk reaction if they try to do anything different from what has been done for 50+ years.
This ought to be interesting! I wonder where they'll get the 8 new locomotives from? I'm guessing they'll be Siemens SC-44's, but that's just an early guess.
Well, I guess if the cars took the "Bombardier" (now built by other manufacturers as well) design used by Tri-Rail, Sounder, and several other agencies, the ADA community's needs would be better addressed.
Change? To my railroad? Where do I file my complaints!?
