Yesterday, explosions and huge fire under the elevated tracks that carry all three east-of-Hudson Metro-North lines through Harlem. Apparently, the space under the tracks was being used to store garden supplies so fertilizer and propane tanks were involved.

Today, the three lines are on Saturday schedule due to two of four tracks being out of service and speeds being reduced from 60mph to 30mph.

Note that CNN (not a podunk outfit by any measure) refers to Metro-North as the subway. I sent them an e-mail to point out the difference. :giggle:

http://New Haven Line customers can take train service to/from Woodlawn Station with subway connections to 2 train and 5 train at 233rd Street

A little misleading info. The 5 runs only in rush hours at 233rd St. And it's a good hike from Metro North up the hill to White Plains Rd. I'd rather grab the bus at the rail station and go over to the #4 Woodlawn -Jerome line.

A friend was caught in this and said it took him 3 hours to get back home to Connecticut Tuesday night. His photo:

CNN website is still calling it the subway today. [is this thing on?]
Do you think they care that they got a detail wrong?
I don't think that's a "detail". Of course, in Atlanta, rail transportation of any sort is hard to come by. In New York, there's no excuse for confusing the two, although New Yorkers will use the term "train" when referring to a particular subway line, as in "the D train".
