Massive drill bit apparently equals 10 inches. I had these visions of a tunnel borer-sized spinning blade of death descending with a banshee scream on a subway full of terror-stricken passengers.

10 inches is pretty large for a drill bit. The drill came very close to hitting the subway cars. If the drill bit had hit a packed moving train with 800 passengers, it could have resulted in numerous casualties. A very bizarre incident and potentially a quite deadly one.
