From Amtrak, we have:

"Effective Fridays and Sundays, April 19 - May 24 and Monday May 27, 2019

Extra service will be available on Carolinian Train 80 between Washington, DC, and New York on Fridays and Sundays, April 19 through May 24 and Monday, May 27.

Train 80 will not run on this schedule Sunday, May 26, due to the Memorial Day holiday. It will run on Monday, May 27 instead.

PSN 0419-44"

RPA (NARP) gives the new schedules. What is confusing is that the given schedules are exactly the same as the current schedules, with the possible exception of a 3 minute difference at Newark, NJ. Normally 80 DISCHARGES only at those stations, so I'm guessing that on these special dates passengers will be able to board as well. Both announcements aren't too clear on that point.

An evaluation of this "temporary" plan yields favorable results. One of the reason they stopped using 80 as a scheduled train on the NEC is the lack of reliability. However, using the train for NEC passengers on Fridays and Sundays only resulted in a couple of major delays:

80's OTP 4/19-5/27

Of course, they ran an abbreviated WAS-NYP make up for today and this doesn't take heat restrictions into account.

I suspect they will press on with this.
