So there's no way to detour around it?

Looks like a box truck. I would’ve been really surprised if a normal sedan derailed the train, but I suppose anything like that can if the circumstances are right.

Appears that 4616 held up pretty well.

Well a train can't exactly veer off the tracks and travel down a roadway, so it's pretty clear the driver was on the tracks.

The engine while off the track, seems to have handled it pretty well for a 70+ MPH collision. We'd still have to see what it looks like after removing the debris from the front, but from what the video shows, the Charger looks pretty good.

Perhaps we should open this topic to wider discussion since it could be any grade crossing incident.

This interesting premise comes as a result of this derailment.

I'm not sure I agree with penalizing the trucking firm for the action of an employee who could have been lost and I wouldn't mind if this happens to the general public. It should be decided on case by case basis but I appreciate the dialogue.

Heck, we can't even get people to buy Medical Insurance for themselves, or for that matter always have a valid license and insurance while driving either. :( But still, getting large truck operators a bit more under control regarding grade crossing incidents would be useful. Honestly, I have no idea what to do with individual drivers who insist on playing Russian Roulette. They behave the same way on roads too even when far away from grade crossings. There are ever increasing incidence of red light running accidents, and any technical means to try to catch them in the act, like traffic light cameras, are considered to be inappropriate invasion of privacy or something like that.

It is as if the entire populations like the traffic casualty rate per year and wants to enable healthy growth if they can.

I fully agree with suspending their licenses. Prior to restoration, they should have to go through a class taught/sponsored by Operation Redblock.
