We will be in car 0830 on train 8. Is that in the front or back of the train? Also, if we wanted to change rooms, can the agent at our local ticket office see what is available and make the change? We would like to be either in the last car or as close to the engine as possible.

I will be going north on the Eagle in a few days. Are the sleepers in the front or back of the train? Is the transition car always connected to the other sleepers? And… are the rooms in the transition car considered "undesirable" and only sold after the rooms in the full sleepers are sold? Thanks.

I've had great luck with Hotwire for hotels. If you have time, you can stay near O'Hare. Take the L to the airport and get a hotel with an airport shuttle.

From my experience, there is no pattern to the hares. I have seen them change several times in a day. I've also seen different fares for the same accommodations on the same train. On the Texas Eagle, if you look at sleepers on train 422, you might see a different fare than train 22.
