    Amtrak Credit Voucher question

    To make sure I understand - you are trying to use a Transportation Voucher (that you received as compensation for something that went wrong in the past), rather than a standard eVoucher? Transportation Vouchers have to be used all in one go - you can't use part of it now and save the rest for...

    Lounge Access-without same day ticket

    At most of the stations with lounges, a significant majority of train movements (and passengers) are on carriers other than Amtrak. It seems to me that, once a regular Amtrak rider has reached Select Plus status, it is quite reasonable to grant him access to the lounge even while waiting for a...

    Moynihan Train Hall

    Or, go down to any of the tracks (except 1-4) and walk west to the Moynihan escalator.

    Cheap Roomettes on 97 in Jan

    If you haven't yet called Amtrak to modify your reservation to take advantage of the lower fares, so do ASAP!

    Boarding 69 from lower level at NYP

    The track is posted downstairs at the same time it's posted upstairs, but since only a few people board from downstairs (and nobody there to check tickets), there's no line - you can just go down and board the train right away.

    Boarding 69 from lower level at NYP

    Thanks. I don't care about the mad dash - I just want to be absolutely certain I get a left-side window seat. I guess I'm best off waking up early and waiting upstairs, just to be safe.

    Boarding 69 from lower level at NYP

    And what, pray tell, would happen if I didn't? Anybody boarding at an intermediate stop doesn't go through a similar process.

    Boarding 69 from lower level at NYP

    I'll be riding 69 from NYP to MTR. Does anyone have experience boarding from the lower level at NYP? Will I run into problems if I don't wait in line to have my passport checked upstairs?

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    It goes to one of the six stations named 86 St. (Well, five, temporarily.)

    Upgrade/Companion/Lounge Coupons: seeking, available, questions

    Unless there has been a recent change, this is not correct. Despite the frequent claims to the contrary, upgrade coupons can be applied to Saver fares. I successfully applied an upgrade coupon to a Saver fare on the Cardinal in February.

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    To add - for anybody determined to walk from AirTrain to the A train to avoid paying the $5 fee, this is the shortest walking route: https://goo.gl/maps/dQHSpE9y8PD2 It's a mile. I did it once, just to say I did it, without luggage. It wasn't pleasant, and I wouldn't want to do it with luggage...

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    Exactly. Entering or exiting airport property at the Howard Beach station costs $5. Entering the subway costs the usual $2.75. (So the direct fare gates from AirTrain to the subway deduct $7.75.) Everything else is free (including riding AirTrain to or from long term parking at Howard Beach)...

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    That area is reachable for free from the Howard Beach neighborhood west of the subway tracks, but not from the JFK parking lot east of the subway tracks. This mezzanine is the only pedestrian access across the subway tracks between North Conduit Avenue and Jamaica Bay, and the AirTrain fare...

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    Yes, that you can do. But you can't get from the parking lot to the area you're standing in without paying $5.

    JFK Airtrain <--> Subway

    It's never been possible. You are correct that there is no charge to enter or exit at Lefferts Blvd. There is also no charge to enter or exit at Howard Beach, as long as you use the parking lot side of the station. But the only access from the parking lot to the subway station (or the Howard...

    Modifying from Value to Saver fare?

    As long as the two trains are on the same reservation, booked as one trip from origin to destination, your connection is protected.

    Bonuses when using upgrade coupons

    I don't know if it was supposed to happen this way, but when I used an upgrade coupon on the Cardinal last month, I got the BC bonus.

    Changing Boarding Location

    I was once seated in the Pacific Parlour Car next to someone while he watched his bags get unloaded at Vancouver, Washington (VAN). Except that his destination was Vancouver, British Columbia (VAC). The agent at Sacramento, where he boarded, had tagged them with the wrong destination. The rest...
