How often does track need to be replaced?

Mr Harris, besides expense what do you think of ballastless track?

    New Beaumont station

Not true. Amtrak LD's are limited by equipment. Take the Sunset, the tri-weekly train is full. If the train goes daily, full. 5 coaches and 10 sleepers, FULL.

    New Beaumont station

It'll cost a lot to install, however ballastless tracks would save a ton on long term maintenance.

Condition of former Amtrak route west of Phoenix

The train is full, where do you want the riders? On the Roof. This ain't India.

Vermont pop. 600k, Houston MSA 6,000k. Houston gets 1 tri-weekly train. That 1 train is not running empty.

We want to talk about Amtrak, not call people and communities insulting names.

Austin could have save tax payers money by using bus's. Do you agree?
  9. G

    New Beaumont station

Amtrak is building the station and platform. The city is doing a separate project.

    New Beaumont station

So while the station is being trashed, what will the police be doing in the sub-station built on the side of the station? yes I do expect an answer. 1. Houston had to cancel it's 100 million dollar transit center because of UP. If the 10th largest metro couldn't beat UP, how could the 131st...

    New Beaumont station

So the station is not in town. Geez. 1. The City of Beaumont can not build on PRIVATE PROPERTY. The City had to buy the property from UP for the current project. 2. I agree that 1.25 million for this station is too much for what will be built. But that is nothing new or unique. The government...

    New Beaumont station

Why do you volunteer to attack without reading? Clearly the article said UP owned the property, not the City. Clearly the article said the city will build a police sub-station and other short comings of this station. I call that a joint project. Reeeeeeeeeeead the article.

    Privatize Amtrak

I said this applies to LD trains ONLY. Amtrak could at least pay for LD trains this way. Amtrak could never try this because it is too radical for the powers at Amtrak and congress. It is to creative for this forum.

If each station makes a profit operating a hotel/restaurant/casino/ etc etc. Add those profits up from each station on a route, then add the trains revenue, that 1 LD train pays for itself.

I don't know. Hopefully a fair price. Maybe 7 million My sarcastic answer would be hire someone. However like I said 40 billion times, I don't mean build Amtrak build the great grand casino. I am talking about a casino about the size of 2 two car garage. Any Bubby can manage that. Greyhound...

    Privatize Amtrak

I am not saying no one can disagree with me, just disagree with what I posted. Right, no gambling in Texas. Each station will be suited with what works in that city. The same model without the casino could work in Beaumont. The purpose is to make money for the train.
  17. G

    Privatize Amtrak

I don't know, but I doubt it. But if they did or if Amtrak did, maybe Amtrak could compete with the million of casino buses on I-10.
  18. G

    Privatize Amtrak

I was giving him a taste of twisting up words. No, Amtrak is not going in the hotel, restaurant, casino, and club business BUT it should. Cruise ships make extra money with a casino on board as well as shops and clubs. Here is another example for those stuck in the box. I'll try to be more...

    Privatize Amtrak

I am not going to try to convince someone hard wired in thinking Government runs businesses better. Thinking outside the box is heresy. You took everything I posted, twisted, then attacked the twisted Idea. The only part you seem to understand is the part about Amtrak using hotels to help pay...

    Privatize Amtrak

This is how Amtrak could turn a profit. Lets take one route for example, EB route. I would run 2 trains per day in each direction 12 hours apart. By doing Amtrak could gain short family day trips. For Example a family in Whitefish to Spokane and back the same day. I could see a lot of this...
