Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car production, delivery, deployment

Sending a single car is normal. Future deliveries will likely be multiples, but the first one is rarely such.

    Business Class in the west?

I'd disagree with the claim that it is worthwhile on the Surfliner.  There is usually a Superliner coach in the consist which is a LOT nicer than a Business class Surfliner, and is likely to be used as a coach. I have also been stuck in a regular Horizon coach which was operating as Business...

    Cruise port to Penn Station

Totally walkable. A bit uphill but not too bad. If you are the sort of people who would consider walking this, you probably can without issue, but I wouldn't suggest it to someone who doesn't come up with it themselves.

    Acela Business Class and lounge

    It does not.

Anderson Speaks on Long Distance Trains

I fully agree with Jis and Jebr. I had initially expected that this firestorm came from some miss-worded statements by Anderson, as he has not impressed me with details in the past. That is not the case here. He seemed well prepared to me. Nothing he stated implies ANY sort of LD...

Seattle light rail from King Street station to waterfront (aquarium)

University Street is a little closer to the aquarium than Westlake station. Personally, I'd walk it. It is a rather nice walk through Pioneer Square, then along the waterfront. Another reasonably priced attraction is the ferry. Bainbridge is quicker and more frequent, but the Bremerton ferry...

    No Blue "Nightlights" in Coach/BC

I have never had trouble turning off the blue night light. Superliner/Viewliner, 1/2, refurbished/unrefurbished. Not sure what you are encountering.

    Single-level baggage cars

You don't necessarily need the Cardinal to arrive on time to send it out on time. If the Cardinal is running late, cannibalize the Crescent, Lake Shore, or Silver Meteor to get it ready. It is hard to imagine it not being in in time for its equipment to turn as part of the later afternoon LDs.

    Viewliner or Superliner Bedrooms (noise?)

Other than the steak dinner and egg breakfasts, the dining car meals are just as pre-made as anything you find in the diner-lounges. (I don't mean for this to be a negative- Many of them are very good. They just aren't made onboard the train.)

    Amfleet II seat reversal

In general, they face towards the dining car. (so if they are forwards of the dining car, they face backwards, if they are behind it, they face forwards.)

Wall Street Journal Article: The Future of US Rail Travel

There is no part of Connecticut nor Rhode Island that is more than 50 miles from a train station. I think you have to double each percent to get the right number. Only AL IA ID KY MT NV OK SD TN and WY have fewer than 50% within 50 miles.

    AGR Question re: Victoria-Vancouver (BC)

Yes, Victoria clipper runs only out of Seattle, not Vancouver.

Crescent between WAS & NYP cancelled for summer

Yes, coming from the north. (Boston or Albany)

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

The Brightline cars do not allow for level boarding in the midwest and west, and so it does not make sense to use them. If you were looking for new NEC cars, Brightline based siemens cars with traps likely would make sense.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

Single level high floor equipment would be a nightmare from an accessibility perspective. Bilevels or Talgos really are the only practical existing designs

    Business Amenities on Heartland Flyer?

There are plugs at the seats, with standard tray tables which I have no trouble using my lap top on. There is no table section to the cafe car- It is simply the lower level of a coach. Also, no Wifi.

    Sleeper-Less Overnight/LD Trains?

With the Crescent Star, I don't think equipment is the primary issue at all. Atlanta-NOL is far from the busiest part of the route, you could probably add the service with a single food service car, two coaches, and one sleeper. It is political will, track and station issues that keep the...
