Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

As I predicted, the Phase III, in addition to making the consists look worse, also shows dirt and grime more.  Hopefully at some point Amtrak will go back to a standardized Phase IV. https://www.instagram.com/p/BqLJxTVB4tb/ The two English ladies seated on the right were tourists who had...

    Amtrak workers fed up too...

Gotta love corporate doublespeak. When you have to blatantly lie, it says something about your agenda. Yeah, okay sure, because one reheated option in your 7 Eleven/Wawa quality snack boxes is so much better than the restaurant quality menu you just eliminated! "Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams...

FRA Tier II speed upgrade: 150mph to 160mph

I assume that they'll add in the "enhanced variable tension" catenary supports where they failed to install constant tension, as seen here in Hamilton. Again, I can't imagine they spent all this money and did all this work for nothing, but then on the other hand, this is Amtrak we're talking...

FRA Tier II speed upgrade: 150mph to 160mph

I was just at Princeton Junction yesterday (actually took a ride from New Brunswick down and back to capture the 'ol Turboliners! ) and it looks like they're doing work on track 3 with constant tension in place on the other tracks already. It's unfortunate to hear of the cost overruns and...

    Texas Eagle getting "Contemporary Dining?"

Any chance of (a) getting Anderson out before further damage is done or (b) restoring proper meal service after his reign of terror ends?

Shower module. On the Viewliner I sleepers, the shower module has two full windows with the lower one glazed over. On the IIs, the shower location only gets an upper window.

110 mph operation on the Empire Corridor

110 mph between Hudson and Albany, and between Albany and Schenectady. 100 mph from Schenectady west to Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction, then down to 79 mph.

The cars seem very nice! It may take CAF forever to make 'em, but they seem to be putting out a good product.

Pacific Parlour Car Permanently Retired February 2018

Like how the space shuttle was retired with the plan of maybe someday replacing it with something? I guess sending sleeper passengers into the overcrowded Sightseer Lounge is sort of akin to hitching rides on the Russian Soyuz!

Pacific Parlour Car Permanently Retired February 2018

I loved it during my trip back in 2013. But yeah, a second Sightseer wouldn't be bad, though I'd miss those insanely comforable swivel chairs! Maybe put some of those in a Sightseer! https://www.instagram.com/p/BdEuOenFW58/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BdEvQP9FwxA/...

In order to keep it out of the update thread, I wanted to ask in response to ThirdRail's comment there, what's happening to 8400?

    Turboliners on the move

'Tis a mystery. My hope would be to be restored for high speed express New York - Albany service. A more realistic rumor is that they're gonna be used for some sort of police training. I always hoped at least one would make it to a museum if they're not going to be used again.

    Turboliners on the move

If anyone feels like braving the cold temps tonight, it might be possible to catch a glimpse of the Turboliners on the move up the NEC as they get towed from Bear, DE up to Adams Yard in North Brunswick, NJ!
