Long Time Member Joe Hess Has Taken His Final Ride

Very late to the game here...apologies. I met up with the 2 Joes in my hometown here of Newburgh IN one day when they were headed somewhere else I assume...really can’t remember. We had a nice lunch together.Very sorry for the loss of Joe Hess, is Joe Gore still with us? Haven’t heard...

    Prodigal daughter returns

Hi all. Some of you may remember me from years past, some may wish to not remember me but that’s fine! Anyway, I’m glad to see the site is still up and running and current and productive, after a few years away, myself. These days, I still mostly dream about taking Amtrak again - it won’t be a...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

Here is how American and Amtrak handled canceling my reservations today. American waived the $200 fee, even though I booked that portion before March 1 and the balance of what I paid can be applied to future travel on AA, within a year. Amtrak - I was pleasantly surprised to explain the...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I’m still on the fence about keeping my trip scheduled for Mar22-26 on both Amtrak [outbound] and American [return], so when I read this it caught my attention. Are you saying they’re giving refunds for cancel, rather than just waiving fees for changing travel dates? Whatever United is doing...

PS, I send this reply to the original poster of those stats, not Suave850!

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

What do you base 30 - 100,000 deaths on? That’s well beyond the current statistic of death to infected rate. Your post is sort of inciting panic, or fear in people who don’t follow the science and rather read things like this. Sure, we don’t know how this particular virus will work itself...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

Oh, trust me I have a ton of antiseptic wipes at the ready for ALL surfaces. I had no idea this topic was repeated in other places, forgive my ignorance as I only re-joined the group a few days ago. I suppose all info is good info, though. Here’s the way I see it tonight...and of course...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I’m booked and ready to go for mid-March , but depending on your choice of news outlets, you’d think we all need to become survivalists and soon. [No offense to survivalists!] There are 2 schools of thought on the whole thing, and I guess I’m looking for input from others who might be in same...

Still around, and ready to ride the rails again!

Thanks for those links. I’d forgotten them in all the time I wasn’t on the forum. Bookmarked now!

Still around, and ready to ride the rails again!

Thanks for all the good advice! I talked to an Amtrak rep today and booked my trip. I thought it was interesting and speaks to customer service that this gal actually told me it’d be over $500 cheaper to leave one day later...they really don’t have to do that. So, I adjusted my plans by 24...

Still around, and ready to ride the rails again!

Not sure anyone remembers me, I’ve been away from the Forum for a few years - as well as Amtrak travel. Retired in 2016 from piano teaching, and all travels since have been via the airlines - mainly due to scheduling with family. So, I haven’t been on Amtrak in nearly 5 years and am more than a...

    Chicago Metropolitan Lounge

The way it worked out last week for me with the Empire builder is this: they called for people needing assistance with redcaps first but almost a minute later asked the people who could walk to go to the correct track. So redcap truly does not get preference because there were several of us...

    Chicago Metropolitan Lounge

I will be arriving atCUS in the next hour and I do not have time to go through this 700+ thread topic. Can someone who is currently online please come to my rescue! My ride cannot come to get me for about three hours. Am I allowed to show my#8 ticket and wait in the Met lounge this afternoon...

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

Update on 8 (10) ...... at worst we were over 2 hrs late in Montana & ND but have made up time. In Columbus WI now with a prediction of only @ 30 min late. Guess I got lucky!

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

Let's put it this way if we're still in North Dakota when I wake up in the morning that's not a good thing. I will report as I can.

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

Went to dinner and basically we sat on the siding for another half hour or so who knows how behind we are at the moment! Moving but for who knows how long!

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

Moving again.... for how long is anyone's guess. There has been some apparent flooding in this area and we had slow orders coming out and definitely coming back.

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

I'm currently on the #8 that left on the 10th from Seattle. All was well until Montana happened. By recent standards we're really not that late -only about an hour and a half now but we are sitting on the siding just shy of Glasgow Montana waiting for several freight to pass. I'm hoping it's...

Empire Builders are several hours late over the last few days

Ok, this straight from the conductor who opened the platform car door of my car in Spokane a mere 5 hrs ago: A vagrant had been riding on a freight car near Wolfe Prairie when he fell off and was killed. Though not on the Amtrak track itself, it made a complete backlog for all trains in the...
