    Amtrak stations, best and worst

Our votes (based on ease of use, safety and visually beautiful) Best: Denver - gorgeous - easy to get to/from the airport, close to free shuttles in downtown, felt safe walking late at night Philadelphia - when we found it, the connection to the transit was easy - and stunningly beautiful...

A tale starting at the end of the trip and will post the actual trip l

So since I’ve had to go to the e.r. twice this year for my heart rhythm issue and owe our local hospital more than I want to think about, it was going to be a movie exchange kind of Christmas…. Simple but happy. Now, at one point, my husband stopped me from looking at his trunk, so my...

A tale starting at the end of the trip and will post the actual trip l

I will never remember this and I don't want to forget the craziness of this night... So the California Zephyr has almost always made it home early and so I got us unreserved tickets for a Capitol Corridor ticket for the 3:50... only we got to Emeryville at 4:10... 20 stinking minutes... The...

    Cardinal / Hoosier State Review

Thanks for the report!! I've heard about the Indy train but being stuck in CA, we don't get to experience a lot of the midwest trains. Gonna to have to put some thought in to a Chicago run with some side tours!

IRV to OKJ. Two more routes. Saturday after Thanksgiving

Thanks for the trip report. Love the Surfliner and Starlight. We hopped on board the Surfliner in Anaheim to get to Union Station and both agreed that we will stick to Business Class going forward. We enjoy Business Class, if only for the preassigned seat and quiet atmosphere.

    OTM - SAC - OTM

Thanks for the report We have loved traveling the Zephyr so nice to ride along and visualize what you were seeing. When we rode, the sleepers were up front and the coach cars to the rear so I was able to take pictures of the majority of tunnels.

    DEN-RNO round trip

Thanks for sharing your adventures.... sounds like solo travel is much more enjoyable!!! Don't you have people who have the window seat and stare at their electronics?? We set a rule beforehand: Window = watching the view... don't want to...Move over!

'Amtrak Cascades': the good and the not so good

I really liked the Cascades when we went on it.... we went Vancouver to Seattle in the winter and it was dark most of the way. We'd really love to ride it when you can see the scenery!

Any Sunset Limited Tips for a First-Timer

We had dinner at Phillippe's before we left on the SL.... highly recommended. The 2 good things about our nightmare trip on this train was a) the bond we developed on the train and b) the mid-morning arrival in San Antonio... where, with the conductor's blessing, we jumped in a cab who took...

The ‘New’ new Park Car Policy on the Canadian

My very little 2 pennies.... We spent time in the Park Car during our Canadian trip... of course! We liked being near the back... but I really enjoyed the front dome - where the coach passengers sit. I sat in every dome.... but the Park Car was all leathered out and really lost the charm of...
