The second sleeper did not run on 50/51 this summer. This was account reduced sleeper inventory due to the Silver Star wreck or reduced demand due to the termination at DC depending on who you ask.

The current language in PRIIA directs Amtrak to "minimize the need for federal subsidies" but the intent is the same. Anderson has referenced that clause in defense of some of the cuts that have been proposed or made.

I've said this before. The same Congress that requires Amtrak to make a profit will also have no problem requiring Amtrak to run unprofitable trains if they choose. Management should know that by now.

The change from bag-dorms to full bags was made primarily because of a projected increase in bike demand. I don't see that demand going away, but they probably need to expand the number of stations than handle walk-up bikes.
