New NYP restrooms open, kind of nice

It's not often that you can take photos of bathrooms, it must have been before they opened to the public. When I clicked on the post I was half expecting to see some inappropriate pictures, followed by a post about being arrested!

Where are you supposed to change baby's diaper on the train?

I usually camp out in the spot opposite from the wheelchair spot, as it has space in front of the chairs, and change my daughter on a pad on the floor. (when she was very small I held her on my lap and my wife did the changing). Acela trains and Superliners have changing tables, but they are...

    Amtrak INK?

That is true, the main writer for Amtrak Ink took the buyout. They hired a new person a month or so ago and are looking to have the next issue out in June.

    Traveling with Infant

I would definitely advise getting a red cap. Just make sure to allow yourself a lot of extra time. I asked for a red cap 25 minutes before departure time the last time we travelled, and it took them more than 10 minutes to find one- so by the time we got to the train, people were already...

CHI-STL high speed, will TE benefit?

The agreement signed with UP allows for ONLY 3 Lincoln Service trains to run at 110mph. So the remaining Lincoln Service trains, and the Texas Eagle, will travel slower. However, they will benefit from a better quality track. Maybe that means they will be limited to 79mph, I'm not sure...

    Diesel on NEC?

I've heard that 66/67 being pulled by a P42 is quite common, to allow for catenary work all over the NEC. The problem with NJ Transit's ALP-45D (or one of the problems) is that being super heavy, it has to travel slower over the Portal Bridge. I was told that a train with the old E-60 Electric...

    Amtrak California E-Ticketing

From the presentations on eTicketing that I have seen, this will not result in any reductions in staffing. In stations, this will allow (or force) agents from behind the counter out into the waiting areas of the station to actually do customer service and interact with passengers. Quik Trak...

    Wilmington low platform

Wilmington has three tracks, with two side platforms and one center island platform. The center high level platform is used by Amtrak, with a track on each side. The southern platform, which was recently redone and is now half high, and half low, is used by SEPTA, or by the occasional Amtrak...

Cascades 510 was a Superliner set this morning!

They are refurbishing the Talgo bistro and lounge cars. While each set is out of service, it is replaced by the set that normally runs 510/517. This started March 16 and may run until "late spring 2012." No business class, or bicycles in the baggage car while it runs with Superliners.
