Traveling from Boston to DC - decisions

In my case FC is $350 more than BC. No way to justify that cost. And we’d love to overnight on the train but can’t risk it not being back in service. Actually just tried to price it out again and it shows “sold out” so they have taken it out of commission since I started this thread. Going for...

Traveling from Boston to DC - decisions

That's interesting-when I called to get pricing, the agent quoted me both a roommette & a bedroom. This is for the end of May. I think we are leaning towards the Acela now.

Traveling from Boston to DC - decisions

We are planning on traveling from Boston to DC. Acela has a good fare in BC, or we are thinking of the overnight on #67 with a bedroom (we have to overnight in BOS prior to departure, so this would be a timesaver option). My questions are: IF we buy the BC on Acela with a refund option, and...

    Acela FC

Have traveled on the Acela many times in BC, BOS too NYC. In Feb, will be in FC for the first time. We have made use of the new seat assignments, which is a nice feature. Any tips or tricks I should be aware of? It's a very early morning departure, so I presume breakfast will be served...

    Hurricane Irma and Amtrak

Thank you everyone for the valuable information! We have set up a few contingency plans "just in case". I had no idea how Amtrak handled big storms so I appreciate all of the input. We don't fly until 9/12 so if Miami doesn't get to backed up, we may just be ok. Fingers crossed for those in...

    Hurricane Irma and Amtrak

Let me start by saying that I know nothing is certain for this storm. I am just trying to decide on a back-up plan for a booked flight from Bos to Mia. IF Irma tracks towards the Carolinas, would Amtrak still operate the Silver Meteor? Or do they cancel service with heavy winds/rain (assuming...

    Bedroom Booking

And what if you are using points for the trip? We have a bedroom booked for FTL-BOS in September. I was recently declared disabled by my doctor. Can I call Amtrak and switch us to the H bedroom? And would it be counted under the roomette "points" needed, or would it be considered a bedroom...

    Trump and Amtrak/Budget cutting funding

If this budget does pass, and they end up cutting long distance service, when would it take effect? Can I book something for this November? Or will it take until 2018 for anything to actually happen?

    Sched change=tight conx in Boston

If we decide on taking the Orange line, do we exit North Station and cross the street to catch it? And can we pre-buy a Charlie Card or just pay on board? Reason-we won't have a minute to spare to stand at those ticket machines and try to figure them out

    Sched change=tight conx in Boston

We are traveling on the Downeatster, from Maine to Baltimore. We just received a schedule change in times and our connection in Boston (from North Station to Back Bay) is now down to 30 mins. If everything goes smoothly, I think we can grab a cab and make it. However, I think we should try to...

    Silver Meteor-bedroom

Thank you for the input. We will be in BC from NYC to BOS. I will call and request Bedroom A. Even though it's not 100pct, I'll give it a try. If it's is "backwards", there's always a chance that the people in the other bedroom would't mind changing with us (she said optimistically :P )...

    Silver Meteor-bedroom

We will be booking our first bedroom on the SM (usually travel in Roomette) from MIA to BOS. Is there a way to tell or request that we have a bedroom with the sofa facing in the direction that the train is traveling? Or is it completely random on how the car will be set up on the day of...

    Bedroom worth buying points

Thank you everyone! I did buy the points needed for the bedroom. And now I am waiting for the date to open for sale. I will post on the regular board to try to get some information on which bedroom has the couch facing forward (if there is a way to tell).

    Bedroom worth buying points

We will be traveling next year from MIA to BOS. We have enough points for a Roomette, which is what we usually travel in. However, we would love to try a Bedroom (which we can never afford at cost). We would need to buy about 8,000 points, which we could do during the current 30% promo. My...

Can you get on after your ticket says?

I will ask about the scanning at dinner. Thank you everyone for the advice. We'll jist chalk this one up to AGR annoying routing restrictions. Happy Holidays !!

Can you get on after your ticket says?

Interestingly enough, we have been on this train for 7 hours and have not had our ticket scanned yet. I did call AGR and they said even though it's symantics, we still have to get off in WAS. She said I can talk to the conductor but they probably won't help. I just have not met the conductor...

Can you get on after your ticket says?

Case in point: currently on the Meteor, set to get off in WAS then change to train 176 from Was to Bos. (FTL-WAS-BOS). The WAS 176 train will also stop in NYC. Our SCA suggeated we stay on with him to NYC since the room will be empty. Problem-we are traveling in AGR points, hence the funky WAS...

Six hours possibly in Washington D.C.&NYC

We also have about 5 hours in DC in November. Are their tours or hop on/off type busses that we could take? It would be nice to have some type of narrated tour that can take us around the major sights in a few hours.

    FLL to Maine-routing question

I booked an AGR oneway trip on the Silver Meteor in a roomette, from FLL to SAO. The connection booked is in WAS, with a 5 hour layover. They have us changing to a NER from WAS to BOS, then the connection to the Downeaster. I called them back to see if we could keep our roomette until NYP...
