Just walked past the Cleveland Amtrak station----

OK, here's the cure for "Trainitis" or for the rest of us addicts that need our fix "I'm David and I love trains... Hi David" http://www.nps.gov/findapark/trailsandrails/index.htm I get my train fix 2-3 times a month from April through late September. Its a great way to volunteer, meet people...

New station for Tacoma, WA proposed

They designed the Washington History Museum next door to the old NP/Union Station with the same architectural features, I see no reason why a new Tacoma station cant be built on the south side of the bypass tracks (as stated above) and in a miniature form of similar classic design. I really...

    Animals on AMTRAK

I just saw a story on the local NBC Affiliate KING5 in Seattle that there is currently a bill before the house that will allow crated animals on AMTRAK train trips of less than 750 miles. It is expected to pass both chambers & be in place by Christmas David Seattle

    EB departing PDX, dinner?

My next trip on the EB will be via Portland so I can have that experience. I'll take #11 or one of the Cascades down in the AM & spend a few hours in Powell's Books and VooDoo Donuts before heading to the Met Lounge and #28. When I do T&R trips on 11/14 I always like to do the "train walk"...

    Coffee on AMTRAK

Unless they have recently changed contracts, They use Douwe Egberts on the LD trains. Not sure if this effects the state supported services or not. http://www.decoffeecompany.com/

    EB departing PDX, dinner?

If you WANT to spend a night in Portland, I encourage you to do so. It is a beautiful city even in the winter! If you are just looking to transfer from the CS to the EB #28 leaves Portland about an hour after #14's arrival and it is a guaranteed connection. The is always the possibility of a...

    eggs for breakfast?

Although I have not had breakfast on the train since last January (Where I had an omelet) As a food service/food safety professional the reasons may have more to do with storage space and cost per serving than anything else. A case of 12 /32 oz cartons of liquid pasteurized whole egg which can...

The one device you can't be without on the train

When I am travelling for pleasure its my scanner and an extra blanket. When I am on-board for Trails & Rails its the topography maps and a GPS. (we cant have scanners while "on duty"

What kind of train traveler are you?

I pack the night before or the day of, depending on departure time. I check the website to find out if there are any delays. I really dont worry about them because to me the more time I spend on the train, the better. Since I travel (for pleasure) in a sleeper, I dont worry about getting to...

    "Wake Up" Coffee Service

I've always liked the Oregonian they bring aboard #14 in KFalls. I dont remember if its McPaper or perhaps the Sacramento Bee on #11.

    LAUS Metropolitan Lounge Master Thread

Very nice. Cant wait for my next trip on the CS. Does the Met Lounge serve liquor or can you ask for someone to get you something from TRAXX? I used to have a Bloody Mary in the Traxx lounge before boarding #14.

    AMTRAK's Record Year

In an AP article dated for 10/14: The subject matter may have been discussed in earlier posts but I didnt see it, so I thought I;d pass it on WASHINGTON (AP) - Railroad officials say Amtrak carried a record number of passengers in the year ending Sept. 30 despite Northeast service that was...

Poll asks why Cascades ridership is down

I tend to agree with Fairview. I think the decline in ridership has much more to do with the mudslide cancelled trips than any competition from BoltBus. I sure hope this season has significantly less cancellations!

    Oregon Talgos

As of Sunday one set was on the same track at KSS its been on for a couple months and the other was in the AMTRAK yard. I dont think either has entered revenue service yet.

No Food or Drinks in Club Acela

The Met Lounge in Portland has never had an issue with me bringing in a chocolate soft-serve cone from the news stand.. I've seen many folks waiting for the EB Builder with boxes of VooDoo Donuts.

Chance of seeing snow on SWC & CS in November

I actually prefer the CS between November & March because you get to see so much snow. My last trip on 14 (not counting all the SEA/PDX Trails & Rails trips) was 01/31/13 it was stunningly beautiful as you saw the snow on Klamath Lake and and up & over the summit. If I remember correctly...
