San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

There has been another adjustment to the bus options as of today (Monday, February 19) - southbound, 564 is now being bus-bridged instead of 770. With 774 being bus-bridged, this makes some sense - spaces them out more, and offer an earlier morning arrival in SD. Still think they should do...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

They finally posted the updated schedule information starting Saturday, February 17th on their website - it looks to be the same, except that 765 is being bus bridged instead of 769. https://www.pacificsurfliner.com/plan-your-trip/alerts/travel-advisories/ Metrolink also posted a new update...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

Schedule in the reservation system has been updated - it now shows 3 bus-bridged round trips for SAN-LAX through March 1. The schedule is the same as it has been except for the first northbound SAN-LAX trip - that is now 1765/765 leaving at 5:36am instead of 1769/769 leaving at 7:23am. Will...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

That would indicate one change from the previous bus schedule - 765 is getting the bus bridge instead of 769. That definitely makes some sense - it restores the connection with the Coast Starlight (and likely some bus connections with the San Joaquin as well). Though it is a lot earlier - 5:36am...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

The schedule I’m seeing starting Saturday on the Amtrak website is 7 trains/day in each direction, which is reduced compared to the usual 10. It shows the regular service resuming on March 5 (March 2-4 are impacted by pre-planned track work). Still not sure if I believe that with freight not...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

Regardless, it seems like the first train into LA and last train out of LA should be prioritized to get bus replacement service to preserve connections, but for some reason aren’t. Similar to in Michigan when they reduced Wolverine service to once daily during the pandemic, but they chose 352...

San Clemente landslide affects Pacific Surfliner 1/24/24

Also, 564 is cancelled from San Juan Capistrano to San Diego, not just Oceanside. The Pacific Surfliner Twitter account had been telling people it would be reopened last Saturday, then Wednesday, and then next Saturday - I suspect they misunderstood booking availability as meaning train service...

    Changes to change fee waiver

It seems that this is for the Saver fares that existed before October 25th, which did allow changes but in theory had a change fee. Current fare classes (including Sale, Value, and Flex - note that Saver is no longer offered as a fare class) either do not allow changes or have no change fee.

Detour+bus bridge schedule for LA Union Station bypass 12/26-12/29

Amtrak has posted alerts detailing the detours/busing that will be in effect on all impacted routes - one for the Southwest Chief/Sunset Limited, and another for the Coast Starlight and Pacific Surfliner.

How busy is Surfliner 12/31 and 1/2?

Hi, Does anyone have experience with how busy the Surfliner is on 12/31 and 1/2? I’m staying in San Diego for a while but want to head up to LA (and eventually Pasadena) the Rose Bowl. I know it will be busy - I’m mainly wondering if it will be so busy I’m likely to be standing the whole way if...

Detour+bus bridge schedule for LA Union Station bypass 12/26-12/29

Bus bridges are now showing for the LD trains in the reservation system, and they are in fact bussing those as well. Chief is bussing to/from Fullerton, Sunset to/from Ontario, and Starlight to/from Van Nuys. Those are at least better than what the “sold out” status on the reservation system was...

Detour+bus bridge schedule for LA Union Station bypass 12/26-12/29

This has been discussed a bit in the commuter rail forum, as Metrolink was the first to announce anything about this: https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/metrolink-los-angeles-outage-in-december-2023.86339/ Anyway, in addition to Metrolink, the Pacific Surfliners and Amtrak long-distance...

Tunnel Bus across the border to VIA Rail for the Grey Cup

After Chatham (the stop before Windsor) our ETA dropped considerably, from the published 3:45 arrival to 3:36. This proved to be true, as we sped up to 150 km/h (93 mph) for much of the remaining trip, before slowing as we approached Windsor. With a 3:45 arrival I was thinking I could Uber to...

Tunnel Bus across the border to VIA Rail for the Grey Cup

Had fun at the Grey Cup Festival and the Grey Cup itself, which was a close game (Montreal took the lead with 13 seconds left and eventually won. Glad I ended up getting club-level seats - can watch the game indoors from a lounge (though the seating was occupied quite early) instead of having...

    VIA Preference 2.0 (Probable Devaluation)

Aah, so it’s not constant. They said it was going to be revenue based - wondering what the other variables are?

    VIA Preference 2.0 (Probable Devaluation)

I noticed that, though the gap seemed greater the closer the date was. It is similar to what Amtrak did with their new fare classes. As far as getting a price in points, you have to do a booking, get to the payment screen, and then select points.

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

Yeah, that would make more sense (as would Fullerton on the Chief/Pomona on the Sunset), though perhaps they can’t have the train originate/terminate there as easily.

    VIA Preference 2.0 (Probable Devaluation)

The new reservation system (including points redemption) is now up, and at first glance it looks like an improvement, save for the current lack of mobile app. You can not only select seats on the Corridor, you can select rooms on some sleeper trains (it seems to work on the Ocean, but the...

Metrolink (Los Angeles) outage in December 2023

I’m now seeing the Southwest Chief showing “sold out” west of Riverside, the Coast Starlight south of Simi Valley, and the Sunset Limited west of Ontario on the closure dates. Makes me wonder if they’re planning on originating/terminating those there and busing to/from those stations during the...

Tunnel Bus across the border to VIA Rail for the Grey Cup

The 9 minutes we ended up losing en route to Aldershot ended up being critical - because of that, I missed the connection to the GO train to Hamilton GO Centre. And I really *just* missed - saw it across the platform as I got up, but the doors closed just as I approached. Defeated, I made my way...
