When I've had layovers there the station manager just told me to put my luggage against a particular wall and he'd keep an eye on it. I've never had a problem. They're very nice there.

Amtrak Mastercard on Chase site seemed to disappear.

Chase credit cards do allow you to close and reopen accounts and get the bonus. We've done it with the Sapphire Preferred. It says , not available to "previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card [also business credit card for Ink] who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer...

Thanks everyone, we had five good days in December and took advantage by using up, about to expire vouchers, went to WAS and to the Smithsonian. We're looking at doing something else, but haven't decided what. I almost feel bad to admit that I've already got my big trip planned, it'll cover...

Thanks Forensic Pic, the way the AGR rep talked, the points would expire in 36 months, because the primary account holder would not have either travel within 36 months or an open AGR card.

I love my husband and hope nothing happens in the near future, but he was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer. He has amassed a large number of AGR points, and when I spoke with an AGR rep, she told me at his death the account and points would be closed unless I am added as an authorized...

Effects on Amtrak of Mt. St. Helens Eruption?

I don't really know what they did with the CS, but I know a few months ago the Cardinal had a bridge on fire and they backed her all the way from STA to CVS. There was also a rock slide at Cotton Hill and they bussed 50 from HUN to CVS and 51 from CVS to HUN, I'm not sure what they did once they...

Effects on Amtrak of Mt. St. Helens Eruption?

My first post appears to have been lost cause I wasn't logged in, so I'll try again. Tom, who is a sleeper attendant on the Cardinal was working the Coast Starlight the day Mount St. Helen's blew. As I recall he said that the CS was called back to SEA. Tom was working the LSL last year, but...

    Today's Cardinal #50 (06/23)

I don't know, but I just looked at it's arrival time into HUN WV and it was to arrive over 3 hours late. After I saw this thread I went back to get the exact number and it now shows a service disruption.

    Odd consist for the Cardinal.

We (some CDL crew and myself) were talking about this strange consist yesterday on my way to WAS. One of the problems that we could see was coach pax searching for a bathroom and walking through the sleeper. It's probably not going to be real popular to have extra people in the narrow...

    The Cardinal Train #50

Saw your dates and sadly I'll be just starting on my western trip. A narrator is scheduled for that day, he's the fellow who got me interested in the narrating program, and is probably the most knowledgeable person on the route. Printman, holidays are always done by an older gentleman. And he...

    The Cardinal Train #50

When will you be traveling? I am actually a narrator on the eastbound train between CHW and WSS. I have my June and July schedule already, but could maybe trade days for a chance to meet a fellow AU member. The Cardinal has its share of problems, but for scenery, and sleeper attendants it can't...

    The Cardinal Train #50

No doubt about it, the train crosses at Hawk's Nest unless there's a reason to do otherwise. Of the many times I've been through the gorge only 4 times have we crossed over to the south-side. Two times was due to a brush fire, two times I don't know. I do not like the south side as it's higher...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Not sure what you saw go through MAY on Sunday morning, but the Huntington crew yesterday confirmed that the Sat-Sun 50 was terminated in IND (as USA-RAIL said). According to the crew the fire was at Craigsville, and they've heard anything from one to three ties were on fire, not the great...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Actually, I was reporting what Amtrak's 1-800-USA-RAIL said when I called on Saturday. They said Saturday's Cardinal #50 was going to terminate at IND. Since I'm riding on Wednesday I called today to see the status and they said 50 would run its full run starting Wednesday, and I reconfirmed...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

A friend on FB who lives near STA said that it was the bridge at Goshen, and that it was now repaired. However, according to USA-RAIL Saturday's 50 still terminated at IND, but the Cardinals are expected to be back on track on Tuesday. I'm hoping to be able to make it to STA Wednesday, and if so...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Saturday's Train 50 will be terminating at IND. No info yet regarding Tuesday's, which is one of my short hops. Erin, I'm sorry to hear of your experience. I've never felt unsafe on an Amtrak train especially the Cardinal. I am a frequent traveler on 50 and 51.

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Thanks. I just remember the phone call from Amtrak in 2011 when CSX wiped out the bridge near IND. That took several weeks, and we were the second PO51 to cross after the repairs. Initially, for the 2011 trip Amtrak said it was a no go, and we were going to have to find alternative...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Yeah, I kinda figured that. :) I was just wondering if anyone knew what bridge, or how significant the damage was/is? Did they re-route the train? Will it be running in a few weeks (my guess is yes) when I go to WAS. It got through but I don't know if it had to get sent around some detour...

#51 (5/23) late due to bridge fire?

Anyone know about the bridge fire 1-800-USA-RAIL gave this evening as the reason behind 51 being 3.5 hours late? What bridge?

Dining car: was this experience abnormal?

Just wanted to amend this to say that I have seen a Jewish family come into the dining car and sit down to a pre-ordered Kosher meal, I'm assuming that's not what the op is talking about though. I've only eaten in the dining car on the CS, so I'm not familiar with the ordering format there. :-)
