First timer, not impressed with Amtrak

I suppose "all the time" is stretching it. Maybe 6-8 times a year. With Delta I accrue a lot of Skymiles for "free travel", but not enough miles for me to book first or business. I also get a "free" companion ticket each year for my wife...pay full fare and she rides along. There again, you...

    Empire Builder question....

If #8 is late coming into Chicago does it affect #7's departure west? Just curious, how many EB consists are there? Is there always a #7 just waiting in the wings? I was kind of wondering because all of a sudden #8 is almost an hour late out of Wisconsin Dells. Leading to another question....we...

First timer, not impressed with Amtrak

"While the airlines in some respects are not as comfortable" is a classic understatement. I fly all the time and unless you can afford big bucks for a first class or business upgrade you are stuck in an extremely uncomfortable coach seat. I recently flew from Atlanta to Madison with...

Ever order a pizza while enroute to the next station?

Actually, SJB is an after hours strip joint in Birmingham.

Ever order a pizza while enroute to the next station?

Yeah, probably eating some bon bons, too. Hey, don't feel badly it's snowing here!

    Question about the Auto Train

No sweat....most train rides are solo as my wife still works to support me. I did take her on a surprise CONO trip awhile back. Also, my daughter went to Lewis&Clark in PDX and the two of us would ride out together.

Ever order a pizza while enroute to the next station?

Yeah, "ticked" passengers only! (kidding) ;) Seriously, here's a thread on the topic from 7 years ago! AmtrakBlue, you even contributed. As for me, I've witnessed pizza deliveries on the EB in Shelby numerous times. I'm just fine with the diner anyway...

    Question about the Auto Train

Thanks, Ronbo. No, I don't have any reports for past trips on here. You must remember that I just learned how to post a link. I think I have that "imgur" site figured out, so I will post some pics upon return. I'm strictly a solo guy on my cycle trips. I love the solitude and time to think...

    Train Ettiquette

“The Amish faith prohibits an individual from having his/her photograph taken,” the suit reads. “This belief stems from the Biblical passage Exodus 20:4, which mandates that ‘You shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the...

    Question about the Auto Train

Packed today...took about 2 minutes. Cycle trips made me travel light. Pick up the EB at 5:00pm in little CBS about a 1/2 hour drive. Really pretty exiting WI, and then you cross the Mississippi at LaCrosse and head up the Minnesota side along the river for quite away before heading west to...

Not the whole car if any Amish/Mennonite folks are present.

    Question about the Auto Train

Hey Ronbo...I did it once and the only "scheduled stop" is Florence, SC. They switch crew, refuel, whatever. I think it's about 950 miles total. Plus, everyone one eats in the diner for "free". Beats driving down I-95 that's for sure.

    Empire Builder: The Album

Nice! I love Laura Gibson. I've seen her on KEXP that Seattle station. In fact, she's featured there to the right on the video page. I hit the Pitchfork Festival every year in Chicago....agree with most of their reviews. Thanks for digging that up! Leaving on the EB this Saturday heading...

    Train Ettiquette

Now that's shocking. Every trip I've been on they've banned cribbage in the coaches after 10:00pm.

    Obtaining a reduced fare

Damn...I actually try to proofread everything....speaking of spurge...it's also called "euphorbia". :P

Ever order a pizza while enroute to the next station?

While surely not on the par of Peter Luger's or David Burke's, the last flat iron steak I had on the EB was passable. Actually medium rare....too bad no creamed spinach.

    Obtaining a reduced fare

Yes, I've been several times. As far as lodging, I have stayed here. A bit of a spurge, but perfect location. Couple of minutes from Cannery Row. Don't know about in room gold fish, though. Maybe you'll get lucky. Have fun! http://www.ictheclementmonterey.com/

    Obtaining a reduced fare

Ronbo...check out this link for some info. Hey, are you going to check out the Aquarium in Monterey? I hear they have some big ass goldfish in there. Seriously, it's worth a stop. http://discuss.amtraktrains.com/index.php?/topic/56251-reservation-change-new-roomette-assignment/
