Skift Global Forum interview of Anderson

I was on the Southwest Chief in late July/early August and there was no WiFi available. I was told that it was removed because “nobody was using it.” There may be some truth to that because on my previous trips I found the WiFi to be extremely unreliable because of the lack of cell coverage on...

Amtrak Horizon Fleet in HO & N Scale

A lesson I learn over and over again.

    Surfliner Equipment Maintenance?

I don’t have any insider knowledge, so this is just a guess. I expect to see a new 500 series train each way, an existing 500 series train converted to a 700 series each way, and one existing 700 series train extended from Goleta to San Luis Obispo each way. Also, changes this substantive will...

    Surfliner Equipment Maintenance?

It sounds to me like it’s one more round trip over the entire length of the corridor. This means a new SAN-LAX train and extensions of existing trains from LAX to GTA & SLO. Exact times have not been announced yet.

    Surfliner Equipment Maintenance?

In the last few months I have seen some Pacific Surfliner coaches and business class cars go out on the Southwest Chief, probably on the way to Beech Grove for service. LOSSAN is also preparing to add additional service in the fall which means more equipment will be needed.

Amtrak Horizon Fleet in HO & N Scale

I’m an N-scale guy so I’m looking at $60 per car. I’m not looking for cheap, but I would love a lower cost version without the lights. I think Kato really gets their passenger cars right at about $35-ish per car with an optional lighting kit that can be installed later.

Amtrak Horizon Fleet in HO & N Scale

Earlier this week Rapido announced that they will be producing Amtrak Horizon Fleet cars in both HO and N scale. Everything looks great about these models except the price. I’d love a less expensive version without the lighting kit installed...

Metra orders remanufactured EMD SD70MAC locomotives

Has there been any indication on whose old SD70MACs Metra will be getting?

Metra orders remanufactured EMD SD70MAC locomotives

My observations have been that the SD70MACs have mostly earned their keep in coal service, so I wonder how that translates to a passenger service use. Are they best suited to pulling long local trains, or would poor start/stop performance make them more suitable for express service? Any thoughts...

@KatoUSAInc: Straight from the factory design department in Japan, we have a first-look at a pre-production sample of the upcoming N Scale Amtrak Viewliner II Baggage Car! This was announced last month and will be available in June 2019! http://www.katousa.com/N/Amfleet/index.html...

The first car in each series does. Look up the specific numbers I posted and you’ll see.

    N-scale Viewliner 2 Baggage Cars

    $35 according to Kato‘s website.

    N-scale Viewliner 2 Baggage Cars

I was really hoping that Kato would do a special edition Viewliner 2 four-pack with the 61000, 62500, 68000 and 69000 all with the pointless arrow logo.

For those of us who enjoy Amtrak in N-scale, Kato just announced that their Viewliner 2 baggage cars will be arriving in June. http://katousa.com/N/Amfleet/index.html

Another F59PHI left on the Southwest Chief last night, likely going to its new home in Chicago. Any updates on when the new Pacific Surfliner Chargers will enter service?

Southwest Chief disrupted by Washout on Rail Runner trackage

You are correct. I am desperately lacking in sleep as well. It doesn’t help that most of the consist numbers on this train still read 04XX. This train was pretty late into Chicago on Thursday and the parties responsible did a poor job of prepping this train for its next run.
