Stupidest lie you've ever heard from an amtrak employee

It is still the best way to go. Nothing in life is 100% perfect. You settle for the best that is available. Bruce-SSR

Disconnect between reality & amtrak marketing

I responded to that tweet. Better off showing the steak than the hamburger, in my opinion. Bruce-SSR

Stupidest lie you've ever heard from an amtrak employee

When I was on one of the largest unions in NYC, I know our contract had language that... trying to remember, a person over a period of time, not sure how much time, had three written offenses concerning how he handled his work, he can be terminated. Even if the union, when they seen the...

Stupidest lie you've ever heard from an amtrak employee

Last in first out is still the best solution, not saying it is perfect. Management would rather get rid of the person making the most money if everything else is equal. And I have seen personality conflicts getting involved when they shouldn't. Yes, I have seen workers who figure they have...

Stupidest lie you've ever heard from an amtrak employee

I always love when people complain about unions, but grew up with strong unions protecting workers and jobs. Want to know about what life was like pre-unions? Triangle Shirt Factory fire. How many hundreds died because management could do whatever they wanted? When was the last time someone...

    Coach Passengers visiting Sleeper Passengers?

If allowing a coach passenger into a sleeper car is shades of gray, open to interpretation, this is a bad thing. Some former SCA's said the rules say no, while riders have said their encounters with SCA's went fine and were allowed. Let me hypothesize. If I am a SCA, I was asked kindly and...

    Coach Passengers visiting Sleeper Passengers?

But if I am renting a room in a hotel that doesn't allow non guests past the check in desk, and a night manager allows a night time visitor to visit a paying guest, then the night manager forfeited his job. The bottom line... which anyone who can read cant deny..... Several people who work or...

carriage of motorized scooters for mobility impaired

In a local McDonalds, they have a contract with a towing company to tow cars that park in the McDonalds parking lot, but visit other nearby businesses. The street parking right outside have meters. The tow truck driver thinks nothing about parking in the handicap spots while he goes into get...

    Coach Passengers visiting Sleeper Passengers?

Tom, thanks for sharing this information. This sounds totally what it should be. Using your example, I hope my SCA is like you. Bruce-SSR

Did you pay McDonalds to drive you? Bad example. Bruce-SSR

carriage of motorized scooters for mobility impaired

That is sooooooo wrong to think, let alone even say that. I would like a apology for such a bad remark. You should take a class on the disabled where you would be taught, not all disabilities are visible. I don't know you, and I really don't care to know you. But I am sure before you needed...

Amtrak Survey About Travel and Transportation WBA Research

I am a member of some organization that sends me several emails a week to get my opinion on things. The last survey was about transportation. One of the first questions asked, are you a Travel Agent, I answered yes, I am, and that was that :) Bruce-SSR

Will staff heat up my personal food on board?

I wonder how they handle people who have medicine which needs to be refrigerated?? Just provide ice?? Bruce-SSR

So how does charging your meal on your credit card work onboard?

neither would I. When I was at a retail business working on their internet connection that wasn't working, the sales person would take down the appropriate information to enter later. It the customer didn't like that, well... which is why the salesperson was yelling at me.. he was losing...

Will staff heat up my personal food on board?

Sorry.. I was trying to make a joke.. like since they wont heat up my food.. could I bring my own microwave and heat things up, just didn't know if I would trip the breaker or not. I emphasized the NON to make people thing I wasn't going to bring a device to heat up food. Bad joke... sorry...

Will staff heat up my personal food on board?

On a NON related subject... what are the circuit breakers rated for in the roomettes?? Bruce-SSR

    Coach Passengers visiting Sleeper Passengers?

Maybe I am wrong, but this is my point of view. Unless I am able to lock the roomettes from the outside to secure my possessions, the less traffic going by my room the better. When I took my first ride, I was advised not to leave anything of value in the room while enjoying dinner. I take all...

So how does charging your meal on your credit card work onboard?

Airplanes use satellite phones to connect to the bank and charge your credit card. Perhaps down the road Amtrak will do the same for areas where cell phone service is non existent. Satellite phone calls are expensive, like ships at seas. Bruce-SSR

So how does charging your meal on your credit card work onboard?

Why don't they?? Not that I use them myself, but aren't they just as good as cash?? Bruce-SSR

    Checking in luggage procedures

Like I mentioned, I go solo in a roomette, my other seat is for my luggage. Offloading at Orlando, the train SCA warns the attendant on the platform... its heavy :) Bruce-SSR
