filthy restrooms/showers on almost all Amtrak trains I've been on

If the women would just sit down when they pee.

    Baggage Policy on Connecting Trains

Make that two sets of clothes. After a shower, turn the "dirty clothes inside out and wear them one more day. But you really don't get dirty on a train, just ask a coach rider, who can't enjoy a shower.

Sleeper as a single traveller DC to SF

Does Classical Music at Train Stations Deter Crime?

Barry Manilow would work just as well.

    LOST CAMERA ON COAST STARLIGHT

I never did get the camera back. Nobody I talked to at Amtrak gave a crap. Sister-in-law had a film camera so not all photos were lost and we still had the video camera..

    Taking train to SF

Come on, it's not that expensive for one night in San Francisco. There are deals to be had, Hotwire, Priceline. Why waste a night in Emeryville?

    Parking at Cincinnati

No, the parking booth and gate are unattended after museum hours, so free in and out during closed hours. I've parked there on short overnight trips to Chicago and back.. For longer trips, a family member drops off my car the night before arrival.

    Parking at Cincinnati

Closest place I can think of to park would be at the airport in Kentucky, then take a taxi to one of the hotels downtown, followed by a taxi to Cincinnati Union Terminal. Then the reverse on the return. But if The Cardinal is late on return, there may only be a short stay in the hotel, unless...

Where to stay in Portland Oregon

The best bed and breakfast I've stayed. In the beautiful Irvington district, close to town. Like staying at the White House.http://www.portlandswhitehouse.com

Which existing LD route best for daily double?

Just make The Cardinal daily first.

    Taking my sister with me

I would try to find a way to start or at least end on the same train. If you do miss your connection, you'll be together and Amtrak will take care of both of you.

    Cardinal?

On our 26 hour round trip from Cincinnat to Chicago yesterday, 51 was a half hour late into Chicago, coming back 50 was on time into Cincinnti. Talk about luck, our other choice was tomorrow.

Can we last in coach travel?

Since you will be sitting next to each other you won't be bothering a seat mate, plus seasoned travelers know to bring ear plugs or earphones not to mention sleepmasks. But for everyone's comfort, if you can swing it, go for the roomette.

    Not 51, The Cardinal

Jackie, you are correct, CUT is the most beautiful station but very few people get to see it unless they are staying in Cincinnati for some ungodly reason. I remember going with my dad to drop off my grandma on her trips to Detroit in the 1950's and 1960's. Each time there seemed to be less...

    Cardinal?

They still have a roomette and a bedroom available from Cincinnati for 7/11.

    Cardinal?

Booked a roomette last night for Thursday 7/12 from Cincinnati to Chicago, so at least the Cardinal is going somewhere. Tickets are available from Charleston west.

    Quick Sleeper Trip To Chicago

Now they are starting at Stauton, but not Charlettesville. Looks like they are slowly working their way east.
