Amtrak trains vs pedestrians or motor vehicles; accidents/fatalities

Just saw this on a local news channel: OTERO COUNTY — A driver was cited after their Jeep collided with an Amtrak train in southeastern Colorado Sunday morning. The Colorado State Patrol says this happened just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Otero County Road 36...

You could tell them you had been in Yuma, Arizona, where they sell ball caps labeled "Yuma: The Southernmost City in Canada," for all the snowbirds from the Prairie Provinces to wear.

Who is drawn to slow train travel?

I like seeing something other than clouds. I like reading or working on a laptop -- I once set up a new account for my websites with a hosting service while rolling along on the Lakeshore Limited on my way to Boston. I like the "parallel universe" feeling of train travel. And I don't miss TSA...

    Railroad Museum in Granby, Colorado

An article from Colorado Country Life magazine (a freebie for rural electric co-op members) focuses on a new railroad museum in Granby, Colorado, which is on the California Zephyr route. Christmas on the Rails - Colorado Country Life Magazine This is a little optimistic though: "A short walk...

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

Another TV station's take on the Union Station situation. Again, this is more about the bus part than the train part of the station. Security Guard: Denver's Union Station 'Being Taken Over' By Crime & Drugs, Is 'Major Risk For Patrons'

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

The last time I was in Union Station as a passenger was 2018. I saw recently that the old Greyhound station in downtown Denver was demolished, though. Maybe the Union Stationwebsite needs updating, as govt sites often do. I see that Greyhound's site says that they use Union Station.

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

The difference between "light" and "heavy" commuter rail is above my pay grade, although I have seen the SEPTA trains you mention. Maybe you saw the airport train? It runs frequently.

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

The station is served by Amtrak (California Zephyr) plus the RTD [Regional Transporation District] buses and light rail, such as the train out to Denver International Airport. No intercity bus service that I am aware of. https://unionstationindenver.com/transit/

Can we use squeegees on the outside of windows?

I have seen that in Denver too on the westbound Zephyr—but it is the only station where I havce seen windows cleaned.

Bus drivers union calls Denver Union Station a "hellhole."

This is more about the bus service than Amtrak, but Amtrak passengers will experience some of the same stuff. https://kdvr.com/news/local/rtd-union-calls-denver-union-station-a-lawless-hellhole/

Capitol or Cardinal eastbound, most scenic?

The Capitol Limited between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Md., gives you a great Appalachian forest experience, but the gorges where the Cardinal goes are also spectacular and that part of the trip last longer. Also (eastbound) it's during breakfast, usually.

Troublesome Fire and Zephyr in Colorado

As of the 23rd, the East Troublesome Fire appears to have moved more northeast, away from Granby and Fraser and the route of the Zephyr. Train 5 left Denver on time today. On the other hand, Rocky Mountain National Park is completely closed and most of the town of Estes Park, its eastern...

Troublesome Fire and Zephyr in Colorado

The Troublesome Fire, burning west of Rocky Mountain National Park, "blew up" yesterday (Oct. 21) and is now close to the California Zephyr's route. Map at the link. Something to keep an eye on if you are traveling on 5 or 6, maybe.

Amtrak is now running in Glenwood Canyon (Colorado) again, according to this article, but slowly because of problems with debris on the tracks. https://www.aspentimes.com/news/union-pacific-amtrak-resume-train-service-through-glenwood-canyon/
