Second Trip on Conway Scenic Railway

Hi- At the beginning of September, we went on the Conway Scenic Railway to Bartlett and back. At the end of September, we went from North Conway to Conway on the 1 hour trip. It was unique in that we rode in the Parlor Car- a train with wicker chairs and wooden trim. It was a departure from...

Suggestions for Charleston, SC hotels from Amtrak

Would like some suggestions for mid-range price hotels between the Amtrak station and the historic Charleston, SC district. (Would like to be in a walking area- only would take a taxi to and from Amtrak.) As many know, the train arrives at 5:00 a.m.- so we would need to go to a hotel...

Amtrak Boston to Mystic CT- yet another good experience

Just returned yesterday from another Boston to Mystic CT round trip on Amtrak. Enjoyed our comfortable, friendly ride on the Northeast Regional once again. The conductor on the return trip was exceptional. I am posting a travel review in the review section.

Number of roomettes available is so helpful on Amtrak site

Today I had the pleasure of booking roomettes on our round trip Amtrak trip Boston to Orlando in March. So glad Amtrak listed the number of roomettes left at a certain price on the Silver Meteor (maybe they do this for all LD trains?) Wow. There were 4 roomettes left at a good price and just...

    Viewliner showers?

Do many people use the Viewliner showers? Some we have seen have not been shower ready. Some have things stored in them- even ice bags one time. Is this just our experience or have others experienced this? The Superliner showers that we have seen have always been shower ready.

    Portland, Maine

Portland, Maine is my favorite city in the U.S. (San Francisco and Santa Fe are two other favorites.) Portland is a fairly small city (66,000+) and is a walking city. The Downeaster Amtrak train brings travelers from Boston's North Station to the Portland Amtrak station. One needs to get a...

    Palm Springs, California

You can get to Palm Springs, CA from Amtrak- on a bus from the Fullerton, CA stop. However, if you want to rent a car and drive an hour -the Riverside stop is convenient. (If one opts to go to Palm Springs on the Amtrak bus it takes 2 hours.) A suggestion would be to stay a night in Riverside...
