Retired Japan bullet train snack carts up for sale

Those carts just brought back a long suppressed memory from High School. There was some job interest survey we all took back then. One question was, "Would you rather work with animals in a veterinary or sell oranges on a train?" 😂

    Train Dispatcher Simulation

Just ordered TD. Should be interesting. I will admit I spent years being an armchair dispatcher while waiting for trains. TMDS Edit: 12 minutes later....well, that was quick. Already received & downloaded.

Canadian Circle Trip: VIA and Amtrak

Straight of Georgia/ Puget Sound? That is so 20th century. It is now the Salish Sea. (SAY-lish) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salish_Sea (Personally, I still prefer using the geological term for the area, "Georgia Depression")

    Solar panels between the rails

It was a great idea 15 years ago when it first came our way. That is until it dumped through a crossing and yours truly with his one shovel had to clean up the mess. 🤬

What time of year to travel cross country

Do NOT take the Cascades the same day as boarding for the cruise. Go a day early and spent the night in Vancouver. Less chance of missing the boat.

    Food delivered to the train—ideas?

Dominoes Pizza worked out great for me going westbound on the EB at Havre. I called about 2 hours ahead of the station to see if it was possible to get delivery to the train. I was told it was no problem. Best pizza ever. (406) 262-9300

    What should Amtrak change?

Start afresh. Rebrand Amtrak and get a new logo. Give priority hiring of on-board staff to graduates with hospitality services training. Immediately begin sending present employees to a short training course every few years. (recertification?) Train everyone from conductors on down to customer...

How to transfer at Chicago Union Station; traveling with firearm

No. That is "No sooner." Remember, this is Amtrak which uses "government speak," not plain English.

How to transfer at Chicago Union Station; traveling with firearm

"No later than 24 hours" to me means between 0-24 hours before departure. Enjoy your trip and welcome to Amtrak Unlimited!

    Steel Rails Newsletter

Methinks usage of the term "Limited" by Amtrak has taken on a new and foreboding meaning.

    Coach restrooms

Those of us track workers that worked for a living in that "decent septic field" would take exception your comment.

    Coach restrooms

As we found out cruise ships, too, are not immune from occasional issues with their vacuum system toilets.

    Absurd 200-foot ‘Railway’ demolished

I believe you are referring to the "Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886" in regard to cruise ships.
