Columbus, WI takes us way far east of our destination and is almost two hours more on our drive. Kansas City to St. Paul is straight north of KC. That's why we chose it. Thank you for the suggestion though! Our plans changed and we will be boarding EB in late August now.

We are going to drive up from Kansas to catch the Empire Builder in St. Paul to take to Seattle. The train is "supposed" to get there at 11 p.m. Do they have restaurants or a bar at the station while we are waiting? Anything nearby? Do they have a Metropolitan lounge for Sleeper passengers...

We are going to catch the Empire Builder at the St. Cloud station, but we need long term parking for about a week or so. Anyone familiar of where we can park our car for this long? Or is there a better Amtrak station option in Minnesota?

I searched through these forums on info about the Grand Canyon stop in Flagstaff, but the info I found was old. We are interested in going from KC to Flagstaff and then driving over to stay in Williams, AZ where the Grand Canyon train takes you to the canyon. Anyone done this trip recently...

So, can you go to the Canyon and back to Williams in one day? Or do you have to stay overnight?

My last two across country trips have been really bad as far as the dining attendants. They are so pushy and rude. They treat the passengers like kindergartners. It didn't use to be that way in the past.

Cross body purse stays on my body the entire train trip. Holds my cash, credit cards, and phone. I never take "good" clothes on a train. At least not inside my sleeper compartment. Been train travelling for years and never heard of any problem.

I'm 8 months out right now, but that price is way too high. I'll keep checking.

Why are sleeper prices so high right now? I always book a year ahead of time, and I have never seen prices so high for the same route I have always taken. Fullerton, CA to Kansas City. Right now a roomette is running $647 one way. Yikes!

I just looked up the SWC from KC to Fullerton, CA for 2019 and the sleeper fare was $500!!! If I'm just going to be eating cold sandwiches, I expect that price to cut in half!!

So, are prices going to go way down since all this mess is happening? No hot meals anymore in the dining car?
