    amtrak in Baltimore

I've been in Philly 30th street and they would be perfectly safe at that station also. Remind her to tip the Red cap at least a $1 a bag or $5-10 with a ton of luggage (let's say more than 3.). Philly has better food options in it than in Baltimore (if they are traveling around meal times).

    Sleeper Meal question

I am going on my first Sleeper next month on the way back from Disney World. I know I get meals on my trip. My question is what comes with the meal. Does it include Dessert on Lunch and Dinner? Can you get Diet Pepsi or Iced Tea (unsweetened) instead of Tea, Coffee or Milk? I would probably be...

    amtrak in Baltimore

I've seen Police on trains before with K9 keeping an eye for trouble inside and outside the Northeast. Your daughter will be safe if they keep their valuables with them. Penn Station Baltimore is a very safe station. Amtrak Police are in that station and is manned 24 hours a day with Police...

Double and Triple Points start today (3/14)

I hate the $35 one way to get an extra 500 points, because I always go for the low buckets for the trips between Baltimore and DC. I do like the one ways for double and triple points. Maybe, I figure another train trip into things soon to get some more points.

    MLB by Train

The Miami Marlins are now in a new Baseball stadium in downtown Miami. You may want to edit the new stadium from the miami train Station when the new season begins. Hope and Baseball is here. All I hope is the Orioles end up with at least 70 wins.

Does Silver Star Turn at Tampa?

It is quite unique as an experience to take the Silver Star into Tampa. I'm amazed that it works so well without major delays to it's on time status.

    Daytona 500

You can take a connecting bus from Jacksonville to Daytona via AMtrak Thruway service. Also, Escot Bus Lines also runs a bus service to the 500 from Orlando/Kissimmee. I'm thinking about doing the Coke Zero 400 on July 4th weekend and that is a consideration for me. Not a train, but you can take...

    Do Members get a packet

I am an almost select member every year (around 4,500 points) and I haven't gotten a regular member card for the last three years. Did they discount member cards for regular members a couple of years back? If so, I guess I will have to do an NYC trip sometime in the year to help on points.

The Best Days Of Passenger Rail Lie Ahead

I've only traveled along the east coast and have never experienced western long distance trains. More people riding can have just as important impact on reducing the carbon footprint than speed that. Those are points I didn't realize were important to this discussion. It isn't all about speed...

The Best Days Of Passenger Rail Lie Ahead

Their design is a diesel guzzler. As the price of diesel (the exclusive fuel outside of NEC for Amtrak) rises, It makes sense to advance car design that reduces fuel. Much like the advances in Airplane designs over the last decade to try reduce fuel for airlines.

The Best Days Of Passenger Rail Lie Ahead

How is a bankrupt company able to place an order for all these new engines and Acela Cars? In this economy, you would think this would be impossible to do.

The Best Days Of Passenger Rail Lie Ahead

I see a simple way to go high speed on the longer distance trains (at least 125) is to make all of the cars in the Superliners single level. They would use less Diesel because they are a lot lighter. They could also be able to take the higher speeds. You also have to improve engines, tracks and...

    Longest one zone

One question about A one zone trip on multiple trains related to this. Would it be separate rewards when you go two different trains (Say the Cardinal and the Texas Eagle in the Opening post)? Meaning that it would actually be 30,000 points for a roomette between those two cities. Am I...

    Celebrities on Amtrak

I saw Scott Pelley in Penn Station Baltimore a few months back right before he took over the CBS evening news. I've also seen Richard Belzer once in that station also. I frequently go through Union Station, but I've strangely enough never seen any famous there. I guess it is because I'm always...

Where do you plan to be on NTD (5/12/12)

Washington, DC is my plan because it is looking to be an Anime USA Staff meeting day. The plan is to do as much as I can before having to make Metro out to VA for the meeting. It will be nice to see that station on NTD.

    Which way for a Roomette?

Probably the Star due to the early arrival in Florida and the late departure from there. I won't be doing this until around July 4th, so the changed schedule shouldn't affect me.

    Which way for a Roomette?

Thinking about taking the 30% offer to get enough points to do Coach from BAL-ORL one way and Roomette the other way. Which way would be the best use of the points for a Roomette? The way there or the way back? I can't buy 18,000 points to get the roomette both ways.

Trip to Boston on Acela FC (plus some)

That trip report makes me want to spend the money to go to Boston by Acela first Class (even though I buy a ticket to Wilmington, DE or use MARC south to BAL). It also answered one of my questions about a BAL-BOS trip and that is whether they would feed you only once in Acela First class.

    DC and Chicago

They usually start 20 or so minutes before it leaves (if it is originating there) or as soon as it discharges passengers in DC. They should do the transfer all the way to California, but take a couple overnight bag with your entertainment, a couple of changes of clothes, toiletries and...

Upgrading to a sleeper on board with free ticket

I have a free ticket on the Silver Star in a roomette with Amtrak Guest Rewards (all those weekend trips between BAL and WAS pay off). A Roomette looks small for a single person though. This leads to my question. Could I buy an upgrade between BAL and KIS to a Sleeper with a Free ticket? Would...
