Any Changes so for under Mr. Moorman?

Anyone have any insight on the individual's named in the corporate reorganization - other than the "deck chairs on the Titanic" comments?

Ice Cream Replaced With Warm Date Pudding?

With all the major issues facing Amtrak, discussions regarding the lack of ice cream and the quality of desserts should be way down the list of priorities! I doubt if the new CEO has that on his top ten list!

New Cafe Menu on the Texas Eagle Considered

Yes, in the past there were regional menus reflecting the cuisine of the train routes and unfortunately they have been eliminated; however they originated out of the central food & beverage kitchens and the inventory & related supplies were provided to the various trains. I applaud the desire of...

New Cafe Menu on the Texas Eagle Considered

Bob Dylan: not everything negative can be attributed to a "bean counter"! At some point there needs to be an approval chain of command.

New Cafe Menu on the Texas Eagle Considered

I think it is highly unlikely that changes to menus/ prices, etc can be implemented by local staff, otherwise there would be little or no control over continuity, supplies, inventory, etc sounds as though there has been an effort to make some changes without prior approval. If individual trains...

Philly overnight to Jacksonville to board a cruise - is it very risky?

Years ago, I worked with the cruise lines to develop Amtrak travel to the various ports and we made it a point to recommend arriving the day before your cruise departure. Why risk delays and cause frustration, worry and anxiety before you even get on your cruise. Spend the money for a hotel and...

    Life Aboard Amtrak

Nitpicking is always a treacherous slope, especially if you are someone looking for details. I just finished reading a novel that had two characters taking the Meteor to New York - in what was called a Suite. One character neded to get rid of a cell phone, so "he opened the window in the Suite...

    Re: Atlanta MARTA...

The "gulch" in downtown Atlanta is part of a proposed development in the area of Philipps Arena. This development has been discussed many times; however the new owner of the Atlanta Hawks has been pressuring the local government to improve/develop the area around the arena to draw more fans to...

    Your funniest Amtrak story?

In 1982, I was riding the City of New Orleans from Chicago to NOL and enjoying a drink in the lounge car, where I overheard two men from Mississippi complaining about a crook that cheated them out of several thousands of dollars! Apparently they had gone to Chicago to purchase used cars...

    Seems to make sense.

Palm Beach Safety Patrol Trains - 2016

Having read all the comments regarding this charter, it confirms my comments of year's ago: "All it takes is a keyboard and a modem to become an expert on any subject!" Time to move on folks!

Crescent's Annual Truncation due to trackwork

I don't know the logistics of the shutdown, but that portion of the route is a winding/ curving section of track & it may require shoring up annually.

Crescent's Annual Truncation due to trackwork

Yes, this is the annual NS track work/improvement period. The train will be housed on the adjacent tracks at the station during the day and then placed northbound for the return to DC. NS normally tries to do 4 ten hour days to allow for travel thru to NOL for a few days each week...

Is having no chef on the CONO permanent?

I think we would all be surprised as to how much food is cooked "sous-vide" in many restaurants. Convection ovens and the sous-vide method produce food with far better quality than microwave; however food that requires browning - such as steaks & other grilled items don't do as well. I haven't...

Is having no chef on the CONO permanent?

As far as I know, nothing is prepared at the commissary. It is simply a supply depot.

Do you get off at longer stops (a poll)?

I generally would get off if not asleep; however I was traveling on business (Amtrak) with two of my colleagues and we stopped in Memphis on the CONO. The toilets n the sleeper were not working so,we got off, notified the Conductor we were going into the compartment under the car to see if we...

Novel?? idea for funding Amtrak? ...

If you look at freight railroads, their assets are more than the physical engines, cars, etc and include very valuable real estate in the way of trackage. Amtrak owned tracks are in a highly valuable location so they would have a high value. I,guess we need to ask Warren Buffett what he thinks...

Chicago Union Station Canal St Entrance Closed

What time does it waste? The train will leave on time & generally not early. Why is it not cost effective? Have you done a study of the staff of major stations? Regular train riders just have to get over it. It really is not such a big deal!
