Capitol Limited & Lake Shore Limited Delays Summer/Fall 2014

We still have several crude oil refineries to open and expand yet on the East Coast. I think the traffic is just going to get worse.

Secaucus Junction's cost ate up new Hudson River tunnel money

ARC tunnel design made no sense. #7 to Secaucus makes a little sense. Gateway makes more sense and is needed. I don't fault them for stopping ARC, but they really should have come up with a "better" plan before they cancelled it outright. Whatever they are doing back and forth now will not...

Secaucus Junction's cost ate up new Hudson River tunnel money

Secaucus Junction may have been overbuilt, and a tunnel to NY might be needed, but the Main/Bergen Lines on NJT have been the best performing, fastest growing lines on the system since the station was built. There is no denying that. The station itself has not been a flop like other people...

Cab from CHI Union Station to O'Hare?

I've taken the blue line to O'Hare... that is one long train ride! Plenty of stops along the way...

    TSA spreading its wings

I like Amtrak... I really do. Like I said, if I had more time and money, I would ride them more. But if I limited time to take trips and the choice is a 2 hour flight or a 19 hour Amtrak trip, I'll walk through the TSA lines. I've never had anyone act inappropriately and if you empty your...

    TSA spreading its wings

Is the TSA really that bad? I fly frequently and it rarely takes me over 5-10 minutes to completely get through security. All you do is empty your pockets, take off your shoes, and walk through a metal detector. I've never had a horror story. If you have nothing in your pockets, they don't...

AT&T... (what they don't know won't hurt them...)

    Portable TV in Rommette

I got a slingbox so I could watch TV on my iPhone. I tried it on Amtrak and it worked decently well through most areas... but not so well once you hit the state of Iowa....

    iPhone scanner apps

Railroadradio.com absolutely does work for the iPhone. I listen to it all the time (yes, thanks for the unlimited data plan). It even works when AT&T slows down my speed every month for going over 3GB. According to a friend of mine, though, it does not work on the Android system.

    NY to Chicago

If Amtrak were to pick one route from NY to Chicago, which route would be the fastest? Would it be the old Broadway Limited route, the NYC LSL route, a combination of the two, or an unused but in tact other route? Maybe via Toledo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh? Just wondering what anyone thought...

    Amtrak Superliner vs Boeing 737

I believe Southwest Airlines only has 137 seats in their 737 planes. Leg room seems adequate in there as well. I have a very difficult time convincing my family (and a lot of times myself) that I should take a train between 2 major cities instead of a plane. I can't justify it when I can...

    Which lounge do you reccommend?

I've only been in NY and Chicago. Chicago is nicer.

Dinner on NB Lake Shore Limited out of NYP

If you are hungry early, it is probably best to go before Albany. When the Boston section is added, it will probably become more crowded. And yes, the lights do go off in Albany but there are emergency lights that can provide some light... its the same throughout the rest of the train.

    BWI transfer

You'll have to take a bus from the airport to the BWI train station. It's probably about a 15 minute ride and they run probably every 15 minutes during the day... so you'll definitely have to leave some time for that.

    Questions From a Newbie

I know my wife has ordered something off the children's menu in the past and it was no problem. We were in a sleeper then.

2 Dead after car collides with train 59 the CONO

Something to think about. I would say that far more people have been killed because of human error at railroad crossings than have been killed onboard trains... yet the Government is requiring the railroads to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on PTC because of one incident in California...

Cut Princeton Junction, Cornwells Heights, North Philly, and Exton

I believe the Pennsylvanian and the Carolinian used to stop at Princeton Jct back in the 90's in at least one direction.

    Chicago - Willis (Sears) Tower

I've done the Willis Tower between the LSL and the CZ. I don't remember what the lines were but I remember I had plenty of time to make the connection. I think we also had lunch somewhere around there and still made it back without worries.

    :::Warning::: Entertainment in Coach

I'm probably not in "Bridesmaids" target audience either but I'll watch any Apatow movie. I think he's a genius. This wasn't the best one I've seen but it definitely was worth watching and had a lot of funny parts. Depending on the route, I'd look out the window to see other trains going by...
