    Coast Starlight to Empire Builder?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, no. I actually resigned in June. I keep close to my former crew base and I miss a lot of things. But, I just couldn’t take the commute anymore. Plus, I started to develop borderline PTSD due to all the close calls and actual incidents I had in the last 8 months or...

    Coast Starlight to Empire Builder?

OP, what was the date you were looking at before?

    Coast Starlight to Empire Builder?

Of course not! They’d rather belly ache, even though they know how the problem came in to existence, but not why. Always better to complain and trash talk than to be productive and attempt to correct the issue. I’ll talk to my contact and try to report back.

Disposition of 4 Superliner Cars EB accident Joplin MT

They were moved. For insurance/investigation reasons, I doubt they will be back in service any time soon. Generally after a major incident, equipment sits until the investigations are complete before work is performed to bring it up back up to service standards.

Dining Car on Christmas Day (Coast Starlight)

All of which technically isn’t allowed, so don’t be surprised if you see a crew not decorating/dressing up. That being said…I‘ll partake if I’m working a diner and the crew wants to do it, but if I’m working a train by myself (Cafe) I stick to the guidelines.

WSDOT reports on Point Defiance Bypass resumption and new trainsets for Cascades service

The other day I was told by a manager who should be well connected…it’ll likely be 2025 until they’re all in service (Cascades ones), which I believe accounts for potential supply chain issues hanging around due to Covid.

WSDOT reports on Point Defiance Bypass resumption and new trainsets for Cascades service

There is a Talgo set that has been out of service for over 2 months due to a vehicle strike and subsequent damage. The hope is to have this set back on the road this week, just in time for the Thanksgiving rush. This will greatly help with equipment demands. Also, I hate to say this, but it...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Thank you once again for reminding me why I take many months away from AU at a time, and enjoy it. :D PM me if you'd like to continue this chat, because I'm done with this forum.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

This menu here is the one you had? https://www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/menus/national/National-Cafe-Menu-1021.pdf

Business Class on Coast Starlight eligible to eat in the Diner

I’m surprised it hasn’t been said in here yet, so here’s a reminder: dinner is appetizer, entree, 1 alcoholic drink, and dessert. Sounds like a deal to me. I guarantee you there are many passengers who would love to take advantage of this. (CHI-MSP passengers come to mind.)

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

There has been a national menu change that went in to effect in the cafés at the beginning of November. Though it’s not enough to take care of you for a trip that long, the options are at least better than they were during Covid.

    Finding a seat on 162

Good on you for being proactive. For what it’s worth, the conductor’s device shows if the questionnaire has been completed or not, so you would be good.

    Amtrak Coach Cleaner

Wages don’t fluctuate by locale. It will be a decent wage, and is good for getting yourself in the door. I don’t know what starting wages are like for coach cleaners anymore, but I would suspect it is $20-21. Most crafts start at 75% off the full pay rate, and climb to 100% over 5 years...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

It’s great that you agreed to do so, as it really helps out your diner crew, but….they are going against Amtrak policy, and this should not be expected.

Amtrak potential service reduction due to staff shortage

That’s really interesting….because a few weeks back that the potential plan was 4x weekly for the Starlight…and nothing has been introduced internally yet. No updates to the consist plans or train schedules either. In a previous post you said you work in the PNW, but you’re in contact with...

Don’t want people loligagging. ;) Gotta keep tables moving in a diner! You know that.

WSDOT reports on Point Defiance Bypass resumption and new trainsets for Cascades service

And without being on the side of WSDOT decision making, no one here can safely say why they did what they did, and if their plans fell apart. What I can say is that the cost of acquiring the Wisconsin Talgos is simply not worth it. There's no business class, no diner (table car), and the Cafe...

WSDOT reports on Point Defiance Bypass resumption and new trainsets for Cascades service

WSDOT was interested in running 517/518 (SEA-PDX only) on a few days, but as was already said, there is not enough equipment. A crew could have been scraped together. The Series 6s were only retired at the beginning of Covid, and the only other reliable source of spare equipment is Amtrak...

    Station codes for non-Amtrak stations

No, there are no station codes for L’Enfant Plaza, or Edgewood/Perryville (MARC stops), to be and to look to train status or book tickets to those stops. Technically they are not Amtrak stops, but stops handled in conjunction with state partners.
