    Dining car seating enviroment

I am 5'7" and 250 pounds and have been called "fat ass" by teenagers in the mall and fit comfortably.

    Sleeper Car Attendent Tips

I now wonder if many first-time train riders don't realize that tipping is part of the journey? I mean, as someone pointed out, no where does Amtrak ever mention that "tipping is optional". The first time, I tipped because the other couple at our table did. I might have left without tipping...

    Sleeper Car Attendent Tips

I have a problem with your not tipping- I feel it is philosophically wrong. I have a bigger problem with you basing your justification on a load of poppycock. I call that rationalizing, and I find it sickening. Amen!

Amtrak begins using Gateway Center in St. Louis

The writer's kind of patronizing about the rail enthusiast. Hmmmmm...

First long trip on Amtrak, looking for suggestions.

The Portland staff told me not to wait in the Metropolitan lounge when I got off my sleeper Empire Builder, waiting for the Starlight. Grrrr.

    Destination Deadlock

It's not that irregular. According to a quick Google search, cancellations for inauguration were planned into the school year: "Some systems, including those in the District, Alexandria and Fairfax County, had already planned to be closed for the day. ... Alexandria and Fairfax recognize it as...

    Complex Trip Advice

Okay, if you have any advice, I'd welcome it. 1. From Chicago, to Boston, to Detroit, and to at least one of the following two destinations: NYC, Niagara Falls. ==Any suggestions on Sequence? ==Are there no sleepers on the LSL into Boston? ==Niagara, NY or Niagara, ON? ==Is this the kind...

    Duluth, MN

Bus service as it exists now is inadequate; two buses daily, one that takes four hours to go 130 miles, and one that takes 2.5 hours making no stops. It misses the viability of the proposed route with stops in Superior and Hinckley (Casino). Plus, it never connects with Amtrak eastbound...

    LSL Diner

I find that Amtrak leaves me feeling overfull after the first meal, anyway. So it's never been an issue with me. On any stay in a sleeper, it feels like eat-sit-eat-sit-eat-sleep. Not complaining. But it's never a worry.

Gul? Ghul? Gool? On the Empire Builder?

Gul, if you read this, my wife still tells our friends that your service was the best part of our trip. Kate and David, Seattle to Minneapolis!

    Are You Ready To Order?

Again, not interested in analyzing your practices. We'll never know if they'd stand up in court until they are tested; I think that the law could swing either way, state to state. For example, if signing a Fiduciary Responsibilities document is conveyed as a condition of hiring, I doubt it...

    Are You Ready To Order?

Most of the laws require a higher standard than I think you can assert simply by absence of the money in the till (1), and require that provisions for deduction not be bundled into any other workplace contract or document (2) -- they cannot, in the states I have been examining, be bundled into...

    Are You Ready To Order?

I'm not sure that these deductions for cash overages/losses among cashiers are legal. State by state may vary, but these googled sites would indicate that your remedies are criminal actions or firing for gross negligence or civil suits for the losses, not charging for the shortages. I cant...
