Acela costs Amtrak 9 Million Dollars in Revenue

Viewliner, you can also edit posts you've already made if you're logged in (for example, to fix broken links). Just thought you might like to know.

Business class on 391 and 392

I think that's too much of a generalization. The Superliner 2's are very good, and their bi-level (or tri-level depending how you count) commuter cars are also quite good quality.

    Amfleet Sleeping Cars

Viewliner, I think all the links to the image you made were good, but Yahoo intermittently chooses not to serve the image. traffic/bandwidth limiting perhaps?

San Joaquin train hits pickup truck

You guys are all such train buffs and you don't know how crossing gates work? :o just kidding  Each crossing has an electronic device known as a predictor that can tell how far away the train is and how fast it is moving. The time that it triggers the gate arm and flashing lights can be...

Penn Station Conversion Plans Move forward in NY

What's wrong with the current Penn station, out of curiosity? (hooray, 50th post... up to Service Attendant I go :D )

    PHASE 4 IS BACK

I agree, for specific trains it's fine to have different paint schemes. I'd like to see a return of Phase IV, and I bet Gunn will have this happen. P42's and HHP-8's look OK in phase 5, but they don't match the Amfleets, so I think they should go back to 4 (nothing better than a nicely...

    long distance on in October?

Even if Amtrak were to shut down, they'd do so at a time when they had enough money left to refund passengers for the tickets they'd paid for, among other things. There is a certain amount of cash below which the railroad cannot run, but does have enough to finish up its operations — it was at...

    PHASE 4 IS BACK

I think it's important for Amtrak to try to pick one and stick with it. Sure, we rail fans like seeing different phases, but it makes good business sense to use the same logo and colors since it helps people who may not know a lot about Amtrak recognize them more easily. After all, when was the...

    PHASE 4 IS BACK

ok... well, dunno, I have no idea really. I had a car with a NortheastDirect logo on a NortheastDirect train (wow, imagine that!)... oh fine, Acela Regional, in April 2002. I wonder if the "reincarnated phase 4" cars still have the NortheastDirect logo? If so, then it's pretty obvious that's...

    PHASE 4 IS BACK

You sure Tristan? I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that the "new phase-IV" units had the new Amtrak "wave" logo, and that also uses a different typeface than the older Amtrak text in that photo, but I could be wrong...

    CZ route guides

Caltrain, including the Millbrae airport shuttle which it runs, will be running a "non-weekend holiday" schedule on Labor Day (20 trains compared to the usual 76 on weekdays). You can look up and view the schedules in several different ways at http://transitinfo.org/Caltrain/. That's also the...

    Hiring stopped in Beechgrove

Didn't Gunn say he was shutting down the individual business units (like Amtrak West) and consolidating operations in Washington?

    Hiring stopped in Beechgrove

battallion51, I agree that they shouldn't make service to passengers worse. But I think Gunn understands that you can still please customers even with less onboard staff. Job cuts almost always lead to reorganization (i.e. they don't just leave a big gaping hole where the eliminated job was)...

For those in high school and college

I'm sure I'm not alone in my annoyance at Amtrak's policy of not giving normal student discounts, only discounts for those with a Student Advantage card. But recently, I found out something that might be of interest to Amtrak riders. If you go to https://studentadvantage.com/enrollment and in...

Acela Regional #95 and Capitol Limited #29

an AAA Discount?!? :o Doesn't AAA lobby against transit and rail projects all over the country? I've always wondered why Amtrak gives discounts for AAA members (AAA must pay them to do it). Now a NARP discount on your ticket, on the other hand, is something you can be proud of. :D
