5 and 6 in service disruption 7/11. Freight derailment in Nebraska

What takes that long in turning the train at EMY?

Pardon my typos, typing on my phone is still hit or miss :P .

    Onboard the Cardinal 51(4)

The Cardinal/Hoosier State absolutely perplexes me ... many days it's on-time it within 30 minutes of it and then some times the whole system seems to falk apart and we get these massive delays prior to Indianapolis. If they could get these under control it seems they could solve most of the...

    Conductor Problems

Not to veer to far back towards the original topic but .... I had some thoughts on this I only see a problem with the sprawling out if someone makes a scene when they have to consolidate to a single seat. I travel a lot from college in Indiana back home to DC and if the seat next to me is open...

    Today's Cardinal #50 (06/23)

Wondering if anybody knows what's up with tonight's Cardinal - it left Chicago 50 minutes late and has yet to report an arrival time into Dyer as of 1045p Eastern.

    union station

I can vouch that WASHINGTON's Union Station has some Greyhound service, but that not all buses that run through the Washington bus terminal, which is not too far away, but not close either, run through Union Station. Check the stop listed on your Greyhound ticket and find the matching address...

    nervous

I suggest a cheap pillow, some kind of blanket, if you can fit it (we brought a full sized bed blanket :) ). Also a deck of cards, books, whatever, for entertainment.   Me and my 60~ yr. old dad did a r/t 4 day (o/w) cross country trip and slept quite well. I found the first night both...

    A Texas to Colorado Train

I see the string of towns Denver south and I see a huge $$ (okay maybe half-a-$, but still). It should definatly be served, if not by a N-S Train w/ connections to either the CZ or SWC. At least the local gov't should invest some cash into a tourist-y commuter type train to connect to both the...

    Trouble near Chicago

Since this conversation has gone political . . .   I'm all for so-called "pork spending". It gets s**t done. But some Amtrak funding would've been nice, IMHO, to expand back into some more N-S corridors (such as the Pioneer, Desert Winds, The CHI-FL train, etc.) But, alas, what do I know . ...

Locked baggage at depot, on train (or airline)

Dear Kiss_Alive:   I understand the concept at work in your theory that someone would say something. But why would someone say something about an unknown person getting into a suitcase that they don't know ISN'T that persons. Nobody will know who's luggage is who's. Especially the conductor...

    B-24 ride

How do you get to ride on one? It sounds like ubber-loads of fun, and something I think a lot of people, including myself would enjoy! Regards, Logan

For Coach Passengers - What's the boarding stress level?

Ha. Thats funny b/c when traveling w/ two people I take the exact opposite tack. I make sure to be at or near the front so we get two seats we are happy with. Now if something is assigned seats, like on an Airline (save southwest) then we are always the LAST ppl to board and I still get a...

    ideas

Hey GML . . . I even had one nice elderly conductor on the CZ in CA who saw me with the scanner push the talk button quickly to make sure I had the correct frequency, so not all are mean about it. There was also a rather funny conductor out of Chicago, I think who, when the A/C in the lounge...

    Quick Scanner Advice

I just used one of he useful websites with all the frequencies applicable for a given route and plugged them, and then hit scan. Sure, there might be some extraneous chatter, but I never missed anything. By the way, crew chatter, is, in my opinion, much more informative and interesting than...

    New equipment for Amtrak

Yes, Las Vegas is not a cow town. That was not my point. The point was that theremainder of the route is barely dotted with tiny towns. 3 major cities and nothing else. The route would be used, but to serve commun tites with no air service where trains would be more useful I belive resources...

    New equipment for Amtrak

Not to question what GML says but . . . I have always held the opinion that LV, NV may be better served by bus. The region that train travels is sparsly populated and it seem there would not be sufficient demand to justify a daily train. 3x a week maybe . . . but daily, I think not.
