Does anybody actually LIKE traveling in coach?

I did bring a power strip with me on the CS in coach. I never had to buy my own beer because of it. :)

    A Few Questions

On my CS trip recently, there weren't too many teens on there. And the ones that were on there were buried in their iPods, dvd players, laptops, etc etc etc and basically kept to themselves. Most of the kids on there were 10 and under from what I saw and they just basically hung out in the...

    Coast Starlight Dining

The tablecloths were a thick paper, not cloth. The plates are plastic, but has someone already said, nice looking and resenble a real china plate but they are definitely plastic. The only cloth was the "silverware" wraps.

    Cross Country Newbie

My kids and I were on the very same train from PDX-LAUS earlier this month. Not sure about the sneaking in for a nap question but can tell you it'll be a very long walk to the sleeper from coach since most likely you'll be in the very last car of the train since you're going almost the full...

    Cell phones coverage

I have Sprint and the service was good on the CS except for the stretch between Eugene and Chemult going through the mountains and a few spots along the Calif. coast north of Santa Barbara. Other than that, no issues.

    Sneaking a Shower

On my recent LD trip, we just used a washcloth and some soap in the coach bathroom. Wasn't as good as a real shower but it was better than nothing.

Questions from first time family taking a train trip

[ I had the same fear with my 2 kids and I on the Coast Starlight a couple weeks ago about getting seats together. It turned out not to be a problem at all. I made sure the coach attendant knew it was 3 of us with 2 kids, they made it work out for us with no issues on getting seats together.

    Coast Starlight LAX-PDX

Well in my case, every seat in the lounge car was taken by the seat hogs who thought that was their assigned coach seat. The same people that were in the lounge leaving LA were in the same seats until it got dard. At 6am I went in there with the kids to wait for breakfast to open up and there...

    California Fires

mmmmmm a 3 by 3 animal style. There's a comma in the calorie count but god is it good. :)

    California Fires

They sure are. If you are aware of the secret menu they are even better. :)

    California Fires

There was no effect on my CS trip. Made for a spectacular sunset though in Santa Barbara with the smoke. :)

    Coast Starlight LAX-PDX

I would have loved a sleeper, however financially for this trip it just wasn't feasible to pull off.

    CS trip pictures

Thanks. :) I was fighting for that space back in the back of the train to take that. lol

    Coast Starlight LAX-PDX

Thanks for the correction on the spelling. I had the omelette on the way up and it had real cheese in it. On the way back, it was totally diffferent. You could actually feel the powder when you took a bite and it had a totally different taste to it.

The arcade car would have been better off being a small theater or something like that for kids in coach to sit and watch cartoons, movies, etc in than what it is. I mean 50 cents to play Centipede? Pllleassseeee.

For anyone who'd like to see, my CS trip pictures can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/28391546@N03/ They are in no particular order. Sorry about that. First time using Flickr.

    Coast Starlight to Seattle

Yeah it's inexpensive if your frame of reference is say.... I don't know... Disneyland? A cruise? lol But it's unique, I'll give it that.

    Coast Starlight to Seattle

We were there last weekend watching the flying salmon. There were probably 150-200 people just to watch the fish fly gathered around. It's actually pretty entertaining.

Hi all, I posted a trip report on my CS trip in the report section. I will be getting the pictures downloaded off my camera and get those posted later today.

    Coast Starlight LAX-PDX

OK this is my first trip report so go easy on the criticism. :) We arrived my Metrolink at 7am on Thursday 6-26. Got the tickets out of the self serve kiosk and then checked my 2 bags. I noticed the lady put tags that said "SEA" on the bags and it wasn't until I questioned her on it that...
