    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Right now it is typical for each train to have one sleeper with toilets in the room and one without. There are some days when this isn’t true but this is the typical consist.

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

Why are so many V1’s out of service? When they add the fourth coach are they going to switch the consist so the sleepers are in the front? I’m riding the Meteor mid-June and was hoping the sleepers would still be on the rear.

Container Ship strikes and collapses Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge

On submarines, in restricted waters, when the maneuvering watch is stationed, an anchor watch is still required. I’m not sure what the requirements are for surface ships.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 H1

Agree with most of what you said except for the station location. If Orlando had a robust and easy to use public transportation system then Brightlines station location would be problematic. But Orlando does not. Tourists have to rent cars or use taxis and ride shares to get around and for that...

Pittsburgh Light Rail Upgrades Kicking Off

I’m by no means an expert on Pittsburgh transit but I believe the route through Allentown is the old Brown Line which had regular service until 2011. Classy Whale has a pretty good video explaining it all on his YouTube page.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

I’m really hoping that whoever wrote this article made a mistake when they wrote Metromover and really meant Metrorail. Regardless, this thing will probably get built around the same time as all the other transit lines Dade County residents were promised in 02 when they voted for the half cent...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars 2024

I would counter that every car building contract Amtrak signs is a long term one since it regularly takes 10 years or longer for cars to be delivered and put into service once the contract is signed. I understand what you mean I was just pointing out how snake bitten/incompetent Amtrak is when...

    Amtrak into Miami Airport Station

I agree that corruption is rampant in South Florida, but so is incompetence at Amtrak. Regardless of what entity Amtrak would be getting into bed with the move would be worthwhile for virtually everyone. The current Amtrak station is out of the way, has no transit connections save for a single...

    Amtrak into Miami Airport Station

I don’t think that’s quite right. I believe Amtrak and FDOT failed to communicate regarding platform length so FDOT built platforms they felt were an appropriate length. After the station was complete Amtrak told FDOT the platforms were too short to accommodate the longer trains they sometimes...

    Amtrak into Miami Airport Station

Probably not. Regardless of whether Brightline would allow Amtrak into MiamiCentral the same problems exist going there as to the airport, except bigger. There is no way to turn a train around and the backup moves would be around 10 miles vice the 2 or 3 from the airport. Why would they need to...

Tri-Rail to Miami Central and (Miami) Northeast Corridor

Commuters are creatures of habit and changing their commuting pattern can be problematic. The LIRR and their commuters recently experienced this. Changing a hundred year old commuting pattern is problematic but this isn’t that. Tri-Rail is only a little over 30 years old and the extension is a...

Tri-Rail to Miami Central and (Miami) Northeast Corridor

I would say the similarities between LIRR and Tri-Rail begin and end at the addition of 1 endpoint and a few miles of new track. Beyond that I don’t think it’s possible to compare the two systems or extensions. The last Tri-Rail ridership report that I can find is from May 2019 and the two...

Tri-Rail to Miami Central and (Miami) Northeast Corridor

Finally, although I don’t understand why the shuttle train goes Downtown. The shuttle should go to the Airport and the direct one seat ride Downtown.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Logically this makes no sense whatsoever. Why would Amtrak cancel service between the 1st and 3rd biggest cities in the country to add service between the 3rd and whatever rank the Hampton Roads region comes in? Also if the desire is there to add a Chicago to Norfolk train it makes much more...

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

The busway runs along US-1 from the Dadeland South Metrorail station to Florida City. It was built in the late nineties and extended in 2007. It is built along abandoned FEC right of way. I’m not sure why you didn’t see buses, maybe you saw the under construction portion. Commuter rail will...

    Miami FL

Going to the airport will result in a longer Tri-Rail ride and provide you a more comfortable place to wait for your trains departure. Eventually, hopefully in the near future, Tri-Rail will begin service to Downtown Miami. When that happens you will be able to board a Tri-Rail train at the...

    Miami FL

Yeah I made that reply 9 years ago before Tri-Rail started serving the airport again. At the time there was a shuttle bus. Most of the areas around Metrorail have been gentrified or were always safe to begin with. The only ”sketchy” portion would probably be the part you won’t ride on, between...

Changing from a bus train combo to a train train combo

I don’t think this is correct. In June I traveled from New London to Albany through Boston. Amtrak wanted me to connect at NYP so I booked my ticket as a multi city trip thereby “forcing” the Boston connection. My understanding is that my connection wasn’t guaranteed and that I would have needed...
