    Suluki/Illini consist

Over the winter they sent an F59 up to Michigan to test an electronic shunt as a possible solution to this. I sure hope they made progress. This whole situation infuriates me to no end. I can't understand why Amtrak isn't suing or filing with the STB over this.

Southwest Airlines and their hired goons will murderize any plans to undercut intrastate travel profits on their home turf.

Analysis of the Gardner/Harris May '23 train rides, intentions, speculations

A source of mine with a direct line to people in AMTK management claims that around 200 Superliners are parked on rip track at Beech Grove, being stripped of parts to feed the active trainsets. That's 40% of the fleet gone with no intention of returning them to service. I'd say it's a legitimate...

Correction, apparently Gardner himself was aboard. Yeah, what zephyr17 said. Apparently they're going all the way to San Antonio, and I guess there's a chance the transdorm isn't a permanent addition. However... will be very interesting to see how the big man likes his Flex meals, and will be...

Hey guys, I think management must have been reading this thread. I just saw 21 go by with a newly refurbished transition sleeper and Beech Grove. I made sure to wave at Mr. Harris!

Wow, thank you for all the info. Where do you get this? Any way for me to stay updated? This is all great news, as long as things continue to work. We really need to free up those superliners on the CN. Makes sense now why they're confident enough to start testing on the gulf coast, they may...

I would just love to have an update on the status of the IDOT cars. Are they going through and fixing the plumbing, table magnets, etc in each one? How many Midwest train frequencies carry them now? Do we have enough cars serviceable now to protect current frequencies? Any chance of equipping...

    Union Pacific & The STB

Temporary nationalization ala Conrail would be the way to go, a massive slap in the face only to be done in the event of an emergency. Nationalizing the infrastructure ala Network Rail... interesting idea, although the British would tell you it's not a good one. The real problem is that Class...

    Union Pacific & The STB

I dunno man, it happened real quick during WWI, and then later Conrail was a thing for a while. Could easily happen again during a war with China, or if service simply completely collapses on its own (just as likely, if not more). The current state of our railroads is a massive national security...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

They're probably extreme for the trains because they're so lax for the road traffic. Trains here have to be built to withstand anything the road throws at them. Elsewhere, things like level crossings exist, with gates that fully close off the road so you can't drive around. In Florida at least...

Yes, thank you, I was gonna post about this. A buddy of mine rode 319 back from Chicago the other day and gave his review of the new cars. Apparently the speaker notification chime got stuck for a while at one point. Teething troubles!

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

I just watched a video from two days ago of 51 rolling into Chicago with two P42s, a Viewliner, a Viewliner bag, and two Superliners all deadheading in front of the usual Cardinal consist. So yes, more cars are coming from Beech Grove. I will rejoice with great adulation if I see more cars on...

Bedroom downgraded to Coach a week before departure

I just searched on YouTube, and it looks like as of two days ago trains 3 and 4 are back to standard capacity with seven superliners and even a bag. Only ten days ago they were running with just six cars, no bag. They had a number of private cars come on and off during that time, at one point...

    Ann Rutledge - It's Happening

The River Runner typically only has two revenue coaches plus the café. Before the UP signalpocalypse, it regularly ran as a three car train. The Lincoln, at peak service levels, typically runs with six or seven cars. Unless I'm grossly misunderstanding what "running thru" means, the six to seven...

    Ann Rutledge - It's Happening

At the very least, ending the axle count issue for the one train might make Missouri happy by freeing up some costs. If I remember correctly, the last iteration of the Ann Rutledge was more than partly paid for by ILDOT. Currently, I believe Missouri pays for slightly more than what's needed for...

    Ann Rutledge - It's Happening

Just as I had suggested. Well done, Gardner. You may have finally earned my respect. Perhaps you really are serious about this after all. However... let's see it actually take place, first. And with 110mph coming and Venture cars to fix again, oof. That's a lot for the Midwest equipment and crew...

Missouri River Runner and its funding challenges

I'm feeling very, very gutted still about my favorite passenger train, and not terribly optimistic at the moment. I just wish there was more I could do, but the chaos within the Missouri legislature is only escalating and making funding a train look even more insignificant in comparison. I don't...
