How reliable is Air Conditioning in Bedroom cars

Never had an HVAC problem on the AutoTrain after Amtrak too over. Prior to that, the heritage sleepers were not dependable; always too hot or too cold.

    Silver Service changes?

The AT diners are pretty good!

Round trip to Chicago- Washington, DC. 50, 29

Beautiful pictures! I used to wave at the Cardinal when I was kayaking near Paw Paw, WV. Also on the North Fork of the Potomac, waving at the Potomac Eagle excursion train from Romney.

It’s Time For America To Get Serious About Fixing The Trains

A Republican administration has no interest in supporting a passenger railroad network. The airline owners have direct access to Congress and the White House and they want Amtrak gone. Those that "manage" Amtrak are appointed by the administration. Until this is changed, plan on declining...

    When will Keystones resume?

Governor Wolfe announced yesterday that Keystone service will resume Harrisburg-Philadelphia June 1st. As per Amtrak, masks are required.

How do feel about riding "Coach" ?

Years ago, I rode the AutoTrain in coach. Never again. Loud talking, bottles rolling around on the floor... A roomette with a window (and a E. M. Forster novel) and I'm happy. Please keep the sleeper dining car open.

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

What happened to the passenger car portion of the train? Did it eventually proceed to Lorton? Or on to Union Station in DC where they would have better ground transportation?

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Love the 2020 version of the Mars Oscillating headlight. Used to see the Mars lighting up the sky back in 1948 when the Tennessean roared northbound by Forest Hill, TN when I was a kid

    Brightline Ridership Number-Crunching and Analysis

From what I could see on the south side of the Beach Line (SR528) yesterday, a lot of work is going on. Miles of trees and brush have been cleared. Grading, leveling and whatever else they do prepping for track is well underway. Part of this route crosses the wetland upper reaches of the...

    Silver Star Diner

Just a note...I've always love the Auto Train with its TWO diners. Sleeping car denizens get their own and the last time I was on it dinner was on white starched table cloths, linen napkins and the food was EXCELLENT! That was nine years ago.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

This is probably a naive question, but why can't the VTUSA trains follow trackage on the current Silver Star route to Tampa from Orlando? (But not use the back-in Tampa station.)

Auto Train Early Arrival at Lorton

...maybe Richmond? I'm usually up by then.

    Brightline/Virgin Trains Orlando-Miami update Orlando Sentinel 11/21/19

Disney could well operate high-speed trains to Port Canaveral, delivering passengers back & forth to WDW. As it is, it's a bus ride. It could be an extension of Virgin's route along the Beach Line. The extension would be about ten miles or less.

Auto Train Early Arrival at Lorton

Going south, I ask the sleeping car attendant to make sure I'm up when we go through JAX. That leaves time to shave, shine, shower ... and have breakfast.
