Sitting in Northeast Regional with extended knee?

Maybe this will help. I am 6ft 2in and I can't cross my legs in Amfleet Coach seats except the end seats set for the handicapped. I can cross my legs in Business Class. A relative on crutches with a lower leg cast could only use the end seats with the extra space.

How to cheaply book a roommette from NYC -> Chicago?

Prices are not cheaper when upgrading on board, anymore. The conductor will probably tell you to call Amtrak yourself too upgrade and the price will be the current national price.

    Sleeper 9712...Wow!

IndyLions Thank you for a very nice presentation. There is a simply solution to the lack of space between the sink and bed in the extended position. Don't extend the bed fully or push it back a foot if the attendant does so. After you use the sink you can fully extend the bed . In the morning...

How is tipping done in a cash-less Amtrak world?

The Amtrak employee manual used to forbid employees from solicitating tips. Does anyone have a recent copy too check that out ? It really irks me when the FC attendant steps off the train at the door with a hand full of large bills as if five invisible passengers before me had stuffed his hand...

    Modify vs Cancel Reservation

No, request to modify anything on the reservation.

When is Sleeping Car returning to WAS-BOS overnight train?

The Viewliner 1 toilets are seaed with a heavy gasketed cover and are dry when not in use. The water flows only when flushed and the contents is forcefully sucked away by the vacuum system. The toilets are not open like the public toilets or the ones in your home.

    Auto Train Upgrades?

Yes. If the agent wants to cancel instead of modifying the reservation, then request a supervisor or hang up and try again with another agent.

    Auto Train Upgrades?

Don't cancel your existing reservation. After you find what you want, request that your reservation be modified by an agent to your new accommodation. Your funds will be adjusted for the new reservation with the same number.

GPS Device for use on Long Distance Trains

The three car Garmin GPS I have owned all had an "off road" setting that eliminates the jumping to the nearest road. Go to "settings", then " navigation", then choose "off road" instead of "fastest route".

    Luggage question

The shelf next to the seat( shown with smaller bag) can store a large bag if you use the retaining belt on the wall too prevent it from tipping. The ViewLiner storage bin can hold two roller bags straight in. We had 26 and 24 inch pull rollers up there. You can turn the bags too fit more in...

    "Call for price"?

It is not a theory, but a fact from my own personal experience trying to use points for a Monday holiday booking .

AGR Points (inconsistent cash/price price for roomette vs bedroom)

Call AGR, ask for a supervisor and ask your question. Something is wrong there.

Trip to AZ moved to March..Boarding process at Chicago or New Orleans?

B.) Less hectic at New Orleans than Chicago . It is a small station with the train close to the boarding door. Fewer passengers boarding for the shorter train. Two lines are called just before boarding, one for sleeper and one for coach. No need for a "mad rush" or anxiety for boarding. NYP...

    "Call for price"?

Ironhorseman, it probably means that your trip is at a popular time and Amtrak doesn't want to advertise that they are going to charge a premium points price for points users. For example charge double points over a holiday weekend.

Interesting that the headlight on the rear engine was put on and off as it passed by, possibly signaling the videographer.

How to know if your trip includes Thruway

CHI to BOS is all by train. If there is track work, causing bus substitution, there will be a service advisory that shows on the ticketing page. edit: History on this route has track work occurring during the warm months on selected days and buses running between Albany and Boston South station.
