Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I gave this feedback (increasing choices for dietary needs) and suggested they look into order-ahead. I also suggested that they look at what ÖBB has done on their NightJet service. The person I spoke to from Amtrak was very open to it. She also lamented the destruction of the opportunity to...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I gave my feedback onboard to an Amtrak rep who was surveying. I understand the disdain for the changes. Dont knock all of the food until youve tried it. The chicken kale Caesar was markedly better than every meal Ive had prepared in the diners in the last 20 years.

Theres a marketing opportunity: New from Amtrak Dining - the Hot Box combo. Grilled chicken Caesar salad with epic whine dressing, served with a side of failing equipment.

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

Breakfast pics from the CL this morning are posted here: https://www.facebook.com/sean.bossinger/posts/10160750131275160 Essentially, its as has been described before: sugar-laden. Though, with our propensity in the USA to have dessert for breakfast, this isnt surprising. In the box was a...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

So, continuing my update from the eastbound CL: You can see meal pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/sean.bossinger/posts/10160750131275160 The crew seemed disjointed, as if there were no process in place for the new meal service. I got my dinner, originally scheduled for 7:30, at 8:15. It...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I just departed on the CL out of Chicago. There were not one, but two amenity kits in my roomette. Ill comment on the chilled beef entree and add pictures once I eat. The amenity kits contain: a mending kit, shower cap, shampoo, body wash, soap, conditioner, body lotion, and a beauty kit (I...

Cash Free On-Board - Open Discussion

Of course, one of the downsides is that I suspect on some routes, you do have people who do not participate in the banking system. So, how to work with them on this?

Cash Free On-Board - Open Discussion

Same here. I pulled cash out yesterday to tip my SCA and LSA on my CL trip tonight, and for my upcoming tips for housekeeping at the hotel in DC. After reading some of the IGs original findings (fraudulent sleeping car meal tickets in order to pocket cash chief among them), Amtrak would do well...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I dont think arguing with someone who wants to go back to dining cars with tuxedoed servers serving on China is worth your breath. In fact, watching Pauls Trip Reports on ÖBBs NightJet service is whats given me the pause to rethink my original thoughts on the whole change. That said, Ill start...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I suspect you both mean like offering contemporary operating procedures and inventory controls (ie going cashless for all services and implementing point-of-service terminals for the café and diner). Yeah, Im all for that!

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

It could be that, or it could be the fresh-packaged-hours-before-departure meals one gets on airlines. Since some of the food on offer spoils anyway, Im fairly certain this is a contract with a company like Gate Gourmet, which does a decent job of packing meals for airlines.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Im sure Amtrak could share booking services with Brightline like theyve agreed to with Texas Central (for whenever that service actually starts). This could have the effect of a single ticket ride from Silver Service to Brightline.

Brightline and other stations before Orlando

I think its also worth noting that some of these very communities that would be served by adding more intermediate station stops are also actively fighting against the expansion to Orlando.

Word from Aboard the Capitol Ltd

Yeah, those havent been implemented. I saw the doctoring of first class slips on a TE trip I took back in April.
