    I don't think it does. . .

CL from SOB to WAS (more questions)

It always bothered me a little bit how baggage claim at an airport is usually in the non-secure area in a domestic terminal. I am glad that Amtrak keeps baggage more secure. On the ICE train in German, the compartment doors are constantly sliding open and closed. It gets a little annoying. I...

CL from SOB to WAS (more questions)

Thank you. I am used to showing his "disability ID" in order to receive any discount for those with disabilities. I am glad there should be no issues. My instinct is to take him to the sleeper lounge, but I wasn't sure if it was closed at certain times or if there is a better option. Do I...

CL from SOB to WAS (more questions)

I posted a while ago with a list of questions. Now that our trip is less than a month out, I have some more. We are a family of four traveling in two roomettes across the hall from each other. In addition to our carry-ons (backpacks to hold what we need for a night on the train), I plan to...

To be or not to be: Amtrak A/C Edition

The social difficulties was the conclusion of the members of the other forum several years ago when discussing the difference between a railfan and a foamer. I appear to have drawn a different understanding of the term foamer than is accepted here. Thank you for the clarification!

To be or not to be: Amtrak A/C Edition

I hope my rephrasing is kosher. The descriptions I remember reading of foamers described my HFA son quite well. His desire "to sleep on a train" is the reason my family is taking our first trip on Amtrak next month. That said, I may have misunderstood the difference between a railfan and a...

To be or not to be: Amtrak A/C Edition

If you want to work with people and for Amtrak, may I suggest removing "laughing at foamers" as one of your interests? Foamers are not only people, they are also often fare-paying passengers. I once read an old discussion on another forum about the difference between a railfan and a foamer...

    Waterloo Indiana Parking?

Waterloo is a tiny town and not considered a "high crime area." I wouldn't think twice about leaving a car there for a week. If it makes a difference to you, remember that Waterloo doesn't have checked luggage service like Toledo does. Instead of covered platforms, there is a small bus...

Comparing treatment of pax w/disabilities: Amtrak vs Europe vs Japan

There is a wheelchair lift at Stuttgart Hbf. I believe it is portable, but I don't know if it is hauled to the platforms used by regional trains or only for the ICE. Pax book a ticket on a specific ICE; itineraries for regional trains simply list your origin, destination, and the date you are...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

You keep the hot entrees chilled until it is time to heat them. Then you move the entrees in foil packets out of the refrigerator and into the convection oven and turn it on. I doubt that the hot entrees served toward the end of long-haul flights are kept warm the whole time. Instead, they...

    Amtrak and United

Is there an actual Amtrak station in the EWR airport? How do transfers work? I could pull up both Stuttgart Hbf (ZWS) and Philadelphia Rail station (ZFV) on United's web-site, but it would not give me an itinerary from one to the other. There are non-stop flights from EWR to FRA, so in theory...

    Cap Limited Price Reduction FYI

Almost $370 refund. I didn't take the voucher (almost $480) because it would expire before I had a chance to use it. I consider the 25% change fee to be a contribution to keep Amtrak that much closer to self-sustaining. Now I just need to call tomorrow and get our old roomettes back.

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

I got my notice of the menu changes yesterday morning, too. Random question. If a child is booked in a sleeper, does the accompanying adult get the child's free alcoholic beverage?

    Cap Limited Price Reduction FYI

Well, it does appear that the trip I booked on the CL a couple months ago for August has dropped a bucket or two. I paid in Dollars for Roomettes. Is there a way to get a refund for the difference in price, or am I SOL? Complete newbie here.

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

You said it much more simply than I did. Getting enough to eat for breakfast to last until arrival given lack of lunch on the CL toward WAS has been a bigger concern to me than the temperature of the breakfast served.

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

There wasn't anything to suggest that the menu would be drastically changed, either. Not to the "Fresh Choices" options, but not a move to offer only pasta and Chineese food, either. Unfortunately, the menu change does affect me and my family directly. Last month I booked our very first trip...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

If you paid for a roomette before the change was announced, you already paid for a "decent meal." To my knowledge, Amtrak is not reducing the cost of a roomette or giving refunds to those who purchased a sleeper fare but won't receive the "decent meal" that was adertisedd to be included in the...

Amtrak's New "Fresh Choices" Dining on CL & LSL

Looking at the pictures of the boxed meals, I think I am going to have to bring a lot of extra snacks when I ride the CL in late summer. There is no way the breakfast someone took a picture of will keep my bottomless pit of a 12 year-old from going hungry before 1 in the afternoon. Fortunately...

Anderson Speaks on Long Distance Trains

Can someone explain to me why end-to-end ridership should be a focus? I wouldn't expect a high percentage of end-to-end ridership on any train, be that a city's mass transit system or an LD train that goes halfway across the country. I mean, there is a reason that the trains stop several times...
